Job description
Behavior Specialist will be responsible for supporting students, teachers, and staff in promoting positive behaviors
and supporting buildings PK – 12. They will assess, develop, and implement behavior intervention plans to
address challenging behaviors and provide training and support to foster a positive school climate.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify behaviors, strengths and challenges of individual studentsor groups.
- Analyze behavioral data to understand function, antecedents and consequences of targeted behaviors
- Develop individualized behaviors interventions plans based on assessment, using evidence-based strategies and techniques
- Provide training and support to staff implementing behavior intervention plans
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, making adjustments as necessary
- Collaborate with building and district teams to ensure coordination of support and fidelity of the plan
- Facilitate professional development and training sessions on behavior principles and interventions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, progress notes, and communication
- Assist teams with developing and implementing behavior programming
- Assist with monitoring fidelity of behavior plans and individualized programming
- Collaborate with building to support MTSS especially in the area of social-emotional and behaviors
- Enhance and develop district processes for addressing behaviors
- This position may also support building as a Special Education facilitator
- Member of District’s Special Education leadership team along with Director of Student Services, School Psychologists and Special Education Facilitator
- Other duties based on qualifications/certifications
- Employee may work in a variety of elementary, and secondary settings
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATION:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, School Psychology, or related fields
- Strong communication, collaboration and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations and best practices especially in the areas of behavior
- Direct experience analyzing and developing BIP and creating individualized programming for students with challenging behaviors
