The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Program Development, is looking for a Planner 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
This position is being recruited in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and Bethel; final location is based on the location of the selected candidate.
Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.
Anchorage: $2619.75 biweekly
Fairbanks: $2698.50 biweekly
Juneau: $2751.00 biweekly
Bethel: $3930.00 biweekly
What you will be doing: You will be working under the general direction of the Anchorage Field Office Chief of Planning. Your duties will vary in nature and will conduct complex planning studies, compile project status reports and white papers, and assist in the preparation and revision of Alaska's multi-year surface transportation, aviation, and ports and harbors improvement programs for a specific Central Region planning sub-area.

The working environment you can expect: This position can be located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, or Bethel. The Central Region Headquarters building by Lake Hood, the world's busiest seaplane base. Lake Hood is surrounded by a walking/biking trail where employees can be spotted during lunch break. The office building is generally comprised of cubical office space and organized by department sections. The work environment is primarily an office job, duties may include occasional field work or site visits.

Special Note: - This position may be required to travel to remote locations via small aircraft and/or small boats.

Any combination of education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
- Public Planning : Knowledge of functions, principles, methods, and techniques of public planning, including those related to community planning, outdoor recreation planning, and natural resource management, such as demand forecasting, environmental impact analysis, financial forecasting, and land use planning and zoning.
- Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
- Project Management : Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
- Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
- Technical Credibility : Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Post-secondary education in urban or regional planning, urban design, geography, community development, transportation planning, environmental and natural resources planning, economic planning and development, or closely related field;
AND/OR
Progressively responsible, independent experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
