Job description
JOB SUMMARY
Supports business objectives by performing and reviewing Planning studies, supporting capital projects, and by providing technical expertise to the rest of the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONIBILITIES
Utilizes various power system analysis tools to study expected transmission system performance with emphasis on steady-state thermal and voltage analysis.
Performs, and reviews, steady-state thermal/voltage analyses for new generator interconnection requests.
Develops and proposes mitigations resulting from overloads observed through the RTO generation interconnection study process.
Coordinates closely with cross-departmental teams and external RTOs performing studies for generator interconnections to the bulk electric system.
Generates and submits facility study reports to RTO and Interconnection Customers.
Performs short-circuit fault analysis.
Generates written short circuit reports to support the RTO generation interconnection study process.
Evaluates system topology changes due to proposed interconnections and develops resulting system contingencies as input to RTO study processes.
Provides technical support to groups internal and external to the company.
Supports development of models to facilitate system studies.
Attends meetings and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
Knowledge of electric utility system operations, planning, protection, design, construction and/or maintenance functions preferred.
Minimum Experience:
No work experience required for an Associate Engineer level.
Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in related area for an Intermediate Engineer level.
Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in related area for Senior Engineer level
Transmission Planning experience preferred.
Ability to learn and utilize various power system analysis software. PSS/E or CAPE experience preferred.
Engineer candidates must be able to quickly learn job specific skills and be able to work independently given regular work direction while appropriately keeping others informed of activities and issues or potential issues.
Senior Engineer candidates must have advanced engineering skills and be able to work under minimal supervision given high level work direction while appropriately keeping others informed of activities and issues or potential issues.
Possess sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the company.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access).
Some travel required.
