Job description
Stark County Park District is currently seeking unpaid, part time Natural Resource Department interns starting January 1 - May 30, 2024 to assist with researching the natural history of each of our major park areas.
Essential Functions:
Research Internship:
Research the natural history of selected park habitats. Gather information on historic biodiversity, presence of species types, soils, land use, geology, archaeology, etc. that could be useful in decision making for land management and restoration.
Attend Shadow/Experience days as necessary to get to know the park and trail areas.
Restoration Documentation: As Stark Parks' staff work on a variety of habitat restoration projects, we are seeking an intern to help document the progress at these locations. Duties would include setting up various stations to photograph each week and documenting the conditions and any observations at those sites.
Encounter moderate to frequent exposure to weather conditions, insects, and poisonous vegetation throughout the year.
Skills/Experience/Abilities:
Must currently be actively working on a degree in field of biology, wildlife biology or management, Geographic Information Systems, Ecology, Conservation, or equivalent field(s)
Lower or upper-class students encouraged to apply
Effective organizational skills
Effective interpersonal skills
GPA of 3.00 or higher preferred
Basic Requirements:
Some (3-6 months minimum) natural resource, land management, biology, or related field preferred
Hours: 12-16 hours a week from January through end of May, 2024. Typical scheduled shifts are Monday- Friday 7:00a.m. 3:00p.m., with possible weekends for special events or programs.
