Reporting to: SVP, GM, North America
Orchard Therapeutics is a patient focused gene therapy company looking for a Senior Director to identify, advocate for and execute on Orchard’s corporate interests in the United States with the legislative and executive branches of the federal and state government to achieve business goals and objectives.
Key Elements and Responsibilities
· Lead the development of Orchard strategy and execution of tactical plans to advance government policies that support Orchard’s objectives
· Establish and maintain expert, trusted-advisor relationships with members of Congress, staff, executive branch, and federal agency officials
· Develop and maintain professional networks with elected leaders and other key stakeholders within and around the federal government
· Position Orchard as a thought leader in gene/advanced therapies
· Represent Orchard’s interest in relevant policy opportunities as well as key in-market trade associations and other relevant consortia
· Direct and participate in cross-functional teams, both internal and external, to help the company identify risks, as well as opportunities for the commercial, clinical, and other teams
· Provide recommendations to leadership on appropriate business goals and strategies from federal and state legislative, executive, and regulatory activities that may have impact on Orchard. Consult with appropriate internal partners in making such determinations, by providing recommendations for formulation of action plans
· Identify legislative opportunities that could positively impact business goals. Develop and execute proactive policy and strategic plans to influence legislation and federal agency actions for both corporate and business/product specific initiatives
· Manage day to day Orchard relationships with IGT, ARM and other trade associations and participate in relevant staff-level work groups to advocate for Orchard’s desired objectives
· Increase leadership and business unit understanding of, and participation in, the policy-making and political process on behalf of Orchard
Requirements
Required Knowledge
· Thorough understanding of governmental policy and decision-making processes and institutions at a federal and state level
· Working knowledge of relevant policies and legislation related to gene/advanced therapies, rare disease and biotechnology industry
· Professional experience in government relations and/or public affairs in-house or at a relevant public institution
· A developed network of personal contacts in government affairs as well as other key third-party stakeholders with influence in the public policy arena at a federal and state level
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize several projects and advise senior colleagues on prioritization
· Established ability to process complex information and summarize it concisely in writing and/or verbally in a professional manner and within a time sensitive environment
· Demonstrated success in development/execution of targeted briefings for executive leadership, senior management and business leaders; well-organized, highly motivated, innovative, process-driven, and results-oriented
· Proven skills as an effective team player who can engender credibility and confidence within and outside the company
· Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and take responsibility for leading and delivering projects
· Ability to manage consultants and budgets

· Willingness to travel (30%+)
· Prior Life Sciences Experience preferred
Education
· Degree BA/BSc in Communications (or relevant field) and advanced degree in public health or health policy preferred
