Genome Editing Principal Scientist
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the development of edited crop products including novel molecular designs for editing, detection assays, edit delivery technologies, and edit evaluation and analytics to enable all aspects of gene editing method and tool development across multiple crops.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Genome Editing Principal Scientist, are to:
- Develops novel molecular designs, assays, cell delivery technologies, and edit analytics to enable full spectrum of aspects of gene editing methods and tool development across multiple crops;
- Has primary responsibility for complex projects;
- Solves complex problems of diverse scope requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
- Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Conducts research, ideates, and/or leads research projects, novel technologies, publications, intellectual property, or trade secrets;
- Demonstrates strategic thinking for prioritization of projects across teams/organization. Creates common direction and goals for cross-functional projects, leads/is a main contributor to strategic direction, plays a key role in attracting and retaining technical talent;
- Prepares reports with large data sets and clearly communicates results across teams, regularly interacts with senior management on matters concerning several functional areas, under time constraints, across various project types;
- Designs and analyzes the results of experiments and drive direction of overall technical strategy across projects/teams;
- Leads contributor to formulating technical and business strategies. Performs a variety of cell biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or genomics, or plant breeding and plant physiology greenhouse or field experiments independently and across teams/functions;
- Determines appropriate analysis of experimental data to inform a data-driven recommendation for implementation;
- Mentors research associates and other scientists/breeders/biologists/data analysts and architects;
- Proactively establishes new collaborations to advance company goals;
- Demonstrates current knowledge of technological developments in novel ways;
- Drives new business opportunities/strategic direction;
- Identifies and steers external collaborations as appropriate;
- Secure IP protection and enable FTO.

Required Qualifications: - Ph.D. degree and experience in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Biology, or related discipline. Post-doc may serve as experience;
- Recognized and sustained success in technical proficiencies (e.g., molecular, protein assays, computational, agronomic, or organismal research) and expert knowledge in a field of scientific study, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought to support and conduct biological discovery projects;
- A passion and creativity for solving complex problems;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment, leading and influencing people at varying levels of responsibility;
- Proven ability to communicate complex concepts across domains in a clear, precise, and actionable manner;
- A consistent record of delivering impactful results, such as publications in leading scientific journals;
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
- Effectively organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments, maintain accurate records;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, establish and maintain effective working relationships across both teams and functions.
Preferred Qualifications: - Ph.D. degree and 10+ years of experience in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Biology, or related discipline. Post-doc may serve as experience;
- Demonstrated success (7+ years) in developing complex technical and business strategic plans as well in leading these projects, initiatives, or teams; and synchronizing activities with team members, stakeholders, and management;
- Demonstrated expert in plant molecular biology, preferably in crops;
- Demonstrated expert in seeds and trait markets, field research/agronomy, and/or regulatory affairs;
- Expertise with using databases and data visualization tools.
