Job description
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) by ensuring the integrity of financial information through compliance with company procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP). Trust and confidentiality are of the upmost importance. Main responsibilities include posting of contribution revenue, including cash receipts, reconciling account receivable balance sheet accounts, maintaining accurate donor designation records, and serving as a backup for payroll and accounts payable.
Supervisory Responsibilities : None.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Record cash and credit card receipts and reconcile with the bank account daily
- Record designated pledges daily and other designation responsibilities as assigned
- Maintain accurate donor records in fundraising software in accordance with UWTC policies and procedures
- Responsible for maintaining donor accounts
- Process electronic and credit card direct bill payments monthly and contact donor relations staff regarding declined transactions
- Prepare electronic file of periodic billing statements for review by donor relations
- Add new organizations to the system, as needed, following UWTC policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation electronically
- Assist in annual audit as directed by VP-Finance & Controller and EVP & CFO
- Research and respond to financial inquiries from management
- Provide support to internal staff as needed
- Prepare and distribute annual tax acknowledgement letters per IRS guidelines according to UWTC policy
- Serve as the backup for Payroll and Accounts Payable
- Additional duties as assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
- At least 5 years of accounting related experience preferred, specifically related to non-profit/pledge receivables, a plus
- Experience with ANDAR software preferred
- Must be well organized and a self-starter
- Must be able to follow standard electronic filing procedures
- Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, and data analysis skills
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Must have strong work ethic and ability to work well in a team-based environment
- Ability to interact with employees, donors, and vendors in a professional manner
- Knowledge and ability to perform basic mathematical computations quickly and accurately
Education Requirements: - Accounting Degree preferred, may substitute accounting experience

Although remote work is permitted occasionally for this position, the individual must reside in North Texas, preferably in Tarrant County, and regularly work from the UWTC offices on a daily basis.
