Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) has dynamic new opportunity for a Vice President, Operations to join our growing team.
Overview The Vice President of Operations for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) is the senior leader of operations for over 65 providers across multiple MA locations from Cape Cod to North Shore regions of Eastern Massachusetts. This position is accountable for leading over 200 staff and managers and managing an operational budget of over $80M. This position requires the ability to lead people, to influence others, to collaborate and partner with physicians and staff.

Primary Responsibilities: Works directly with leadership, providers, clinical and administrative team members, to achieve high quality care, exceptional patient service and staff experience along with meeting financial goals. This position will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing OCB’s clinical and administrative operations.
Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position will:
Clinical Operations: - Ensure a high-quality and safe patient experience, adequate support for providers to deliver patient care as well as productive and profitable operations.
- Provide leadership and support to the operational teams, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
- Streamline and optimize internal processes and workflows, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness across all aspects of clinical care. This includes efficient access to appointments, optimizing use of automation in workflows, and ensuring excellent service to patients and providers.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation to enhance productivity and achieve operational excellence.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve quality, service, patient satisfaction and financial performance metrics.
- Engage with clinical and administrative staff of each specialty to identify unique clinical/operational needs and assist with the development of action plans.
People Management: - Mentor and develop key talent within the organization, promoting professional growth and building a strong leadership pipeline.
- Provide ongoing and timely communication to the physicians and provides appropriate and accurate data to facilitate informed decision-making by the COO and physicians.
- Responsible for hiring, conducting annual reviews, promoting career development, and managing disciplinary events for all staff.
Business Management: - Collaborate with executive leaders for the development of the clinical strategy and be accountable to implement that strategy throughout the practice.
- Participates in the development and monitoring of annual budgets and overall department goals.
- Analyze operational data to uncover efficiencies and lead the execution of process changes.
- Identifies opportunities for practice and revenue growth and ensures effective implementation and subsequent management of designated priorities. Monitors developments in the local market and provides recommendations regarding appropriate responses and strategies and ensures implementation of planning initiatives.
- Interprets business data for the purpose of identifying patterns, trends, and variances across practice operations. Use performance metrics to evaluate progress toward goals.
- Performs related job duties as required.
Qualifications: - Bachelors Degree
- Proven experience (10+ years) in strategic operations, clinical operations, or medical practice management roles in healthcare.
- Track record of successfully leading multi-location teams and executing strategic initiatives to drive business growth and operational excellence.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to lead teams and inspire people to achieve their best at work.
- Exceptional planning, organization, and complex facilitation skills.
- Experience in medical practice management in multi-locations is required.
- Experience in health care, Lean Six Sigma, and/or ophthalmology strongly preferred.
Physical Demands: Requires prolonged sitting, frequent standing, ability to traverse office, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Occasional lifting to forty pounds. Requires manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, copy machine, telephone, and other office equipment. Requires ability to communicate verbally, normal range of hearing and eyesight, and the ability to prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions, work occasional irregular hours, and may involve contact with upset/irrational patients and family members.
