Position Summary:The Lab Prep Manager will be responsible for the preparation of chemical reagents and the collection and storage of chemical waste for the large enrollment undergraduate courses in general chemistry. The Lab Prep Manager will also setup equipment and instrumentation for undergraduate experiments as well as participate in the testing and troubleshooting of new experiments. Responsibilities also include maintaining a computer based inventory of stockroom chemicals and glassware and re-ordering materials as needed. The position may involve training and supervising graduate and undergraduate student prep assistants. The employee will oversee the general maintenance of the prep rooms, stockrooms and undergraduate laboratories in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:Experience in the chemical solution preparation, the handling of concentrated acids and bases, and organic solvents. Familiarity with standard undergraduate general and organic chemistry instrumentation, chemical waste management and digital data laboratory information management systems is a plus. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is important.
Physical Demands:Frequent lifting of boxes. The Lab Prep Manager will work directly with chemicals to prepare solutions. Personal protective equipment will be provided along with safety training for handling hazardous materials.
