Our client is a Catholic mission-driven organization, dedicated to serving and inspiring Catholic leaders for over three decades, and they are looking for a hands-on Vice President of Finance. As the top finance position, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the direction and culture of this independent non-profit organization. We are seeking an individual who wholeheartedly supports our mission and values and can lead the continuous evaluation of our financial strategies to ensure the achievement of our apostolate's goals. This role also involves safeguarding our assets and investments through the design and oversight of financial and internal controls that reflect the best practices for non-profit entities, enabling ongoing growth opportunities.
Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as an integral member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the apostolate. This includes overseeing finance, forecasting, strategic planning, accounting, payroll, risk management, contract costing, legal, and property management. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Leadership Team and the Board of Directors, providing key leadership and contributing to the annual budgeting and operational planning processes.
Your responsibilities will encompass:
Vision and Plan:
- Prayerfully discern, create, and implement a vision and plan that serves and supports the leadership development needs of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Contribute as a key leader in the annual budgeting and operational planning process.
- Engage in ongoing strategic planning conversations with the Leadership Team and the Board of Directors to ensure proper prioritization of financial investments aligned with our apostolate's strategic direction.
Finance:
- Develop, analyze, and report on financial strategies that fulfill our strategic direction and demonstrate responsible Christian stewardship to our ministry and philanthropic partners.
- Make informed business recommendations based on comprehensive financial analysis, projections, cost identification and allocation, revenue/expense analysis, and risk assessments.
- Maximize return on investment by considering appropriate timing and adhering to risk management principles within our Investment Policy guidelines.
- Budget, secure, and allocate organizational resources to effectively achieve our operational plan objectives.
People:
- Attract, develop, and retain a team of staff and volunteers who possess the gifts, talents, and commitment necessary to serve Christ and fulfill our vision and plan.
- Ensure sound financial procedures throughout the apostolate by engaging and motivating the Leadership Team and the entire mission implementation team.
- Provide primary staff leadership to the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors, actively participating in regular meetings and contributing to other standing or ad-hoc committees as needed.
Governance and Administration:
- Document, assess, and refine key business structures and processes across the organization to increase the effectiveness of our ministry and ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions, including conducting annual audits and reporting findings to the Board.
- Safeguard assets and investments through the design and oversight of financial and internal controls that reflect current best practices for non-profit entities, fostering ongoing growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, or related field. CPA or MBA/MFA preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in finance and operations, demonstrating organizational leadership and managing the finance and administration of a high-growth organization (non-profit experience preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting principles and practices, accounting principles (including GAAP), investment strategies, and financial reporting methodologies.
- Experience in legal, audit, payroll, compliance, budgeting, and investments.
Critical Qualifications/Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership in financial forecasting and modeling, accurately assessing and predicting likely future outcomes.
- Proven ability to document, assess, and refine key business structures and processes, increasing effectiveness and ensuring compliance.
- Strong relationship-building skills, effectively communicating the short- and long-term financial implications of ongoing and proposed business plans to the Leadership Team.
- Strategic thinker, evaluating and advising on the financial impacts of new products, strategies, and regulatory actions.
- Excellent communication skills, conveying financial data, statements, and projections to individuals at all levels of financial understanding.
- Advanced knowledge of investment methodologies, financial reporting requirements, financial and accounting systems, and budgeting principles and practices.
- Resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing efficiencies, and managing organizational change.
- Experience driving analytic frameworks for planning and managing organizational change in a highly entrepreneurial environment.
- Visionary leadership abilities, motivating others and providing sound financial advice in the annual strategic planning process.
- Excellent written and verbal skills, effectively using data to tell a compelling story.
