Duties
As a Meteorological Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Provides weather, water and/or climate advice and guidance to a number of different groups and interests on a variety of natural and human caused emergencies in which weather, water and/or climate predictions play a role in response and planning.
- Collaborates with local and state agencies in identifying service gaps and addresses their weather, water, climate and environmental information needs; provides accurate and timely information to key decision makers for the protection of life and property; and articulates highly technical environmental information to non-technical customers.
- Assists in the acquisition, management, quality control and collaboration of specific weather, water and climate data. Participates in verification studies.
The duties are at the full GS-11 performance level and the GS-10 is the developmental grade level leading to such performance.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-10 grade level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation;
- Observing and recording atmospheric characteristics including temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types;
- Decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere;
To qualify at the GS-11 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation;
- Observing and recording atmospheric characteristics including temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types;
- Decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere; and
- Communicating meteorological information to internal and external partners
Education
There is no positive education requirement or education substitution for this position.
