The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Division of Facilities Services is looking for a Utility Billing Technician (Accounting Technician 2/3 Flex) to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Accounting Technician 2 - $24.65 Hourly
Accounting Technician 3 - $28.31 Hourly
What you will be doing: This position performs journey level work in accounting and financial management to handle and process public facility utility bills for DFS. This includes receiving the bills, applying coding, logging data, submitting bills for payment timely, troubleshooting and addressing billing discrepancies, research, vendor communications, conducting spend analysis and trending, preparing reports, and handling encumbrances. This work requires substantial knowledge and coordination of multiple processes and procedures by applying established policy, rules, and regulations. There is a large volume of work which requires close attention to detail and accuracy is paramount. The position works closely with other administrative staff in ensuring all utility bills are processed, data is tracked and accurate, reporting is completed and timely, and we strive for zero late fees or shut off notices. The work is fast paced and challenging, and we provide full training and support to ensure success. This position may also cross train with other administrative staff and perform other duties as assigned.

This work is primarily performed in an office setting, with a possibility for a hybrid telework schedule.

Minimum Qualifications
Accounting Technician 2:
One year of entry technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience.
Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
Accounting Technician 3:
Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.
Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the
Accounting Technician 2 or Accounting Technician 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 2, promotion to the Level 3 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
