Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring that Symbii Provider Services is organized and running efficiently. The Medical Assistant assists the nurse practitioners by scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, sending refill requests, scheduling labs and other tests, answering phone calls, and assisting patients as needed. Clinical duties may include recording patient history, collecting samples for labs, performing injections, flu shots, etc.

The Medical Assistant represents Symbii Provider Services both in person and over the phone as he/she interacts with patient, families, and providers and will establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, facilities, vendors, providers, and other members of the medical community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain patient records and schedules appointments for the providers as needed.

Update patient medical records as needed to keep the EMR up to date and correct.

Create patient charts and care plans.

Establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, vendors, facilities, and other members of the medical community.

Answer incoming calls and assist patients as needed.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, facilities, and other providers.

Send orders and refill requests, schedule labs and other tests as requested by the providers.

Visit patients to record patient history, take vital signs, collect blood or other samples for lab testing, and perform injections under the direction of the provider.

Monitor faxes and ensure appropriate action is taken, such as sending out lab results and orders and managing incoming referrals.

Maintain confidentially of patient information at all times.

Other duties as needed and as assigned by the administrator.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Completion of a two-year Medical Assisting program with Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA) is preferred.

CPR and First Aid required.

Able to type at least 50 wpm.

Experience with EMR, MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Minimum Experience: 2 years; combined education/experience can be substituted for minimum experience.
