Job description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overall appropriate and safe program development and daily operation of the Childcare Center, including implementation of activities schedule.
- Ensures adherence to NCCF’s Childcare Manual and existing standards of Maryland Childcare Licensing Regulations.
- Provides individual supervision to childcare staff and conducts monthly staff meetings. Submits employee performance evaluations in a timely fashion and in accordance with agency standards.
- Coordinates and supervises parents and volunteers, providing recreational and educational activities and special events involving children that occur during childcare hours.
- Assists with liaison activities and collaborating with outside agencies including schools, social services systems, judicial systems, and other organizations as necessary.
- Assists with advocacy for education and health needs of children and parents to ensure healthy well being.
- Maintains sufficient inventory of childcare supplies.
- Documents and reports any signs of child abuse or neglect and intervenes with parents to address these concerns.
- Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team to ensure the provision of developmental services to families; attends external meetings regarding advocacy and volunteer-related issues as appropriate.
- Provides direct care to children before and after school and remains present until the last child is retrieved for the day.
- If campus events occur while on duty, Residential Assistants may be tasked with the collection of keys and/or other material from external meeting participants.
- Assists in maintaining records on each child served, including monthly and annual statistics.
- Assists in collaborating with parents and school officials to address issues regarding transfers, transportation, enrollment in Head Start, etc. Maintains ongoing communication with the school system.
Qualifications: - High School Diploma and Child Care certification with at least two years of relevant experience.
- Commitment to working with vulnerable populations of children and their families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse groups and consumers of services.
- At least one year of experience in a childcare leadership/supervisory position.
- A valid driver’s license.
- An attitude compatible with the goals and purposes of the National Center for Children andFamilies.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required y this job require close vision working with a computer monitor. While performing the duties of this job, employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While performing the responsibilities of the employee’s job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the employee will encounter.
