The Donor Services Department at the Rhode Island Blood Center is seeking a dependable individual for daily travel to and from RIBC mobile blood drives to fixed sites for transport, set up, and breakdown of all equipment.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position reports to the Manager, Collection Logistics and is responsible for customer service, communication, and organization of blood drive setup and break down. Donor Services Drivers represent Rhode Island Blood Center to donors, drive sponsors and the public and ensure efficient and effective blood collection activities. Packing for, transporting to and setting up mobile blood drives and delivering blood from fixed and mobile operations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Complete Mobile Prep by: Maintaining vehicle inventory of stock items. Using “Drive Sheet”, gather non-stock supplies from packing room and load onto vehicle. Ensure that supply levels are adequate for assigned blood drive or fixed site before leaving. At end of work shift, restock vehicle with stock items.

• Support Mobile Drive and Fixed Site Operations by: Consulting the Donor Services Supervisor, Drive Coordinator, and “Drive Sheet” to determine appropriate arrangement of equipment and supplies to ensure proper and efficient set up of blood drive. Coordinate “end of drive” activities with Donor Services Supervisor, including: disassembly of drive equipment, load all RIBC equipment and supplies onto truck, and leave blood drive site clean and free of debris. Deliver supplies and equipment to fixed sites and provide assistance to Donor Services Supervisor as needed.

• Greet and register donors at blood drives and fixed sites.

• Operate vehicles in accordance with applicable MA law. Daily travel to and from mobile blood drive sites and fixed site locations. Plan trips to ensure efficient and timely return of blood to RIBC processing per Donor Services Administrative Standards.

• Ensure Maintenance and Repair of Vehicles and Equipment by: Being responsible for general maintenance of company vehicles (gas, oil, fluid levels, tires, etc…) and reporting any damage or unusual vehicle performance. Maintain cleanliness and repair of all Donor Services department equipment (beds, blood pressure cuffs, etc…). Protect company assets by handling equipment and laptop computers in an appropriate manner to ensure security and safety.

• Exhibit excellent customer service skills and promote positive interactions with external and internal customers.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Assist in various aspects of mobile blood drive as directed by the Donor Services Supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent required.

 

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and drive alternately throughout duration of shift. Will be required to lift and move approximately 150 pounds total weight during one hour drive set up and break down periods. Must be able to repeatedly walk long distances while pushing or pulling handtrucks holding 150 lbs of equipment. Driver may be required to climb stairs and carry equipment up and down stairs. At blood drive location, Driver is responsible for opening and setting up tables, chairs, donor beds, equipment bins, and various other supplies which range in weight from 5-50 pounds.

 

DOT Health Card – Upon hire, a Donor Services Driver will be required to undergo an employment physical exam and obtain a DOT Health Card. Subsequently, Donor Services Drivers must obtain a new DOT Health Care every two years. Physical exams are paid for by

RIBC and conducted by Occupational Health and Rehabilitation.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

Minimum of 32 hours per week flexing up to 40.  

This position involves a varied work schedule that may include long shifts (more than 8 hours/day) as well as early shift start times and late shift end times.

Primary work location will be Massachusetts.

Travel primarily throughout t he Metro-West area along with Norfolk, Worcester and Middlesex counties is required.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Blood drive schedule requires Donor Services Driver to work in all weather conditions including extremes of heat, cold, rain, and snow. Inclement weather conditions such as snow and ice may result in limited accessibility to blood drive locations and may require higher level of physical activity (ie – increased trips to deliver equipment to site).

 

 

The proposed hourly wage for this position is $19.72/hour.
