Responsibilities
The Family Practice Nurse Practitioner oversees the quality of care delivered to assigned patients with supervising psychiatrist. Performs medical assessments for individuals under his/her care. Completes documentation necessary to address patients hospitalized under civil commitment statutes. Provides individual therapy, family therapy and/or medication management as needed for patients. Appropriately requests consultation when indicated.
Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Qualifications Master's degree or Post-Master's Degree in Nursing specializing in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from an accredited college or university. Must be licensed in the state of Virginia and have prescriptive authority and a DEA license. A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Certified Nurse Practitioner is preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with other health care professionals, both verbally and in writing. Prefer one (1) year experience working and/or treating adolescents. Experience with children and adolesents age 8-18 preferred.
