Job description
Academic Support
- Conduct preliminary assessment of students with areas of academic concern which may include screening measures, classroom observations, and consultation with parents and teachers.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with faculty and parents to gather information, assess student needs, and devise action plans as indicated.
- Along with students, teachers, advisors, counselors and division head, establish the need for outside evaluation.
- Serve as liaison with parents and teachers regarding interpretation of evaluation results.
- Interpret evaluations and assess eligibility for accommodation plans in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Develop accommodation plans for students with learning differences or medical conditions that require support and/or medical leave and consult with teachers and parents regarding implementation.
- Support students in their understanding of their learning strengths and needs as well as effective use of accommodation plans.
- Consult with students, parents and teachers with regard to student learning needs, academic, health, and/or social emotional issues impacting school performance.
- Work with students on strategies relating to effective study skills, time management, test preparation, executive function, etc.
- Along with Division Head, facilitate academic re-entry related to concussion and other Medical Leave.
- Provide referrals to outside agencies and resources.
Counseling and Social Emotional Support
- Short term school-oriented counseling; individual and group.
- Consultation with parents and teachers.
- Crisis intervention.
- Social emotional programming/knowledge of SEL
Consultation
- Support faculty development with regard to new developments in the field of teaching and learning, learning differences, social emotional needs and other educational information.
- Collaborate with faculty on issues including:
- Learning Support Plans
- Behavior assessment and intervention planning
- Individual student needs and supports–behavioral, social/emotional and/or academic.
- Extended medical leaves and academic re-entry plans
- Requirements for accommodations and other regulated issues
- Instructional techniques
- Serve as a resource for school departments and committees such as:
- Admissions—consult with regard to applicants with academic or social emotional areas of concern
- Academic Dean, Division Heads and Department Heads on matters pertaining to curriculum and best practices in teaching and learning.
- Health Office and Director of Health and Wellness—regarding students with health issues impacting their school functioning as well as broader health and wellness issues and initiatives.
- Director of Student Life regarding matters of student well-being and student activities.
- Attend meetings as requested by division heads.
- Provide parent consultation.
- Help to support the transition of students between grades and divisions.
- Work with Outside Groups to:
- Coordinate evaluation plan meeting and evaluations through Princeton Regional School District and their assigned agencies.
- Facilitate programs at PDS including tutoring and related services and Learning Center programming in the Lower School.
- Maintain a current referral base and relationships with agencies offering community services.
Standardized Testing
- Work closely with Division Heads in the selection, administration and interpretation of the standardized testing programs.
- Coordinate and communicate about testing with faculty and families
- Provide support to teachers and parents in the analysis of standardized testing results.
- Serve the role of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Coordinator for the College Board and ACT, and assist families applying for accommodations in standardized testing.
Required / Preferred Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have an educational background and experience in School Psychology, Education, Special Education, Counseling or related degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an academic setting supporting students with a variety of strengths and challenges.
- Specific knowledge of the science of teaching and learning, academic support, social emotional learning, and school counseling and consultation practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse student populations, families and school faculty and staff.
