Job description
Job Summary
The job of HVAC/R Service Technician I performs a variety of entry-level maintenance; repair, install, troubleshoot and service work on HVAC/Refrigeration equipment for commercial businesses.
Essential Functions
- Performs PM inspections and service on HVAC and Refrigeration equipment
- Maintain, and repair a variety of HVAC/R equipment
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and compliance schematics
- Performs planned maintenance, regular servicing, and repairs to HVAC equipment of all types, sizes, and temperature ranges
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Assists HVAC/R Technicians when required
- Lubricates, replaces, and adjusts and clean parts and equipment
- Provides repair quotes and when authorized, make repairs, and perform PMs of equipment
- Keep all work areas and mechanical rooms clean, orderly, and organized
- Make entries to work orders as required
- Be familiar with preventative maintenance techniques
- Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships
- Comply with directions and instructions from supervisor and perform other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned
- Work independently and under minimal supervision
- Complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and established work practices
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements - Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- GED or High School Diploma preferred
- Two (2) year Technical College course in refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and/or Associate Degree from a technical or accredited HVAC trade school preferred
- Must have EPA Universal Certification
- Reading and understanding of technical manuals and schematics
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment
- Knowledgably in operations, maintenance, troubleshooting and service of HVAC components
- Basic principles of electrical circuits, process control systems, instrumentation, and standard terms of the mechanical and electrical trades
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Ability to use equipment and tools of the trade properly and safely
- Travel out of area for work
Working Conditions
- Clean driving record
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemical; and risk of electrical shock
- Some workdays may require odd hours and emergency repairs
- Work nights and weekends
- Ability to climb ladders to roofs and work in small spaces
