The Nurse Manager is responsible for facilitating the improvement in the overall quality indicators for CMS, Joint Commission, QIO, and AHA and completeness of medical record documentation. They obtain appropriate quality documentation through extensive interaction with physicians, nursing staff, other patient care givers. They are also responsible for facilitating the improvement in the overall quality of delivery of care through identification of clinical issues, research for evidence-based practice, and assisting with the implementation of performance improvement projects.
Provides supervision to the Quality Documentation Nurses, the Quality Management Associate, the Data Registry RN and the RN Data Collection. Provides oversight for team involvement in PI projects, pay for performance projects and other patient safety improvement issues.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the quality and completeness of clinical documentation for specific patient populations using clinical guidelines for the CMS, Joint Commission, QIO, and AHA indicators of quality care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical indicators of quality care, documentation requirements, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Generates a method and knowledge base for nurses to access best practices and available resources and dissemination of best practice.
- Assists with the development of initiatives to support the clinical indicators of quality care and clinical documentation standards. Delegates rollout of initiatives to quality team staff for implementation

- Uses a systematic approach to bring about change in practices when research identifies positive patient outcomes may result.
- Develops a systematic and collaborative process for nurses to identify researchable problems and provides opportunities for them to participate in and use research in practice.
- Provides supervisory oversight of the Research Committee, chair of assigned pay for performance projects, departmental performance improvement projects, as well as participation in various assigned hospital committees.
- Collects accurate data and provide interventions to ensure compliance to the CMS, Joint Commission, QIO, and AHA indicators of quality patient care.
- Works in collaboration with other education and health care institutions for identification of best practice, research opportunities and networking opportunities.
