Position: Healthcare Technician | South Coast Behavioral Health | Newport Beach CA
The Healthcare Technician works closely with each of the clients, the Director of Healthcare, and the Medical Director on an individual basis providing assistance in the areas of medication observation and medical appointment scheduling, as well as overall client health, in an intensive inpatient care facility serving dually diagnosed clients who are detoxing off alcohol and other drugs.

Job Duties: Healthcare Technician
- The Healthcare Technician follows all state of California rules and regulations concerning standards of care../li>
- Works with Director of Healthcare and Inpatient Operations Manager to oversee detoxification services.
- The Healthcare Technician strictly enforces and supports person served rights and confidentiality of information as required by HIPAA.
- Provide supervision/ assistance to all persons served in medication offered and observed. Provide medication teaching and answer all questions regarding medications prescribed.
- The Healthcare Technician promotes and maintains good communication and cooperative working relationships with staff, family members, and related treatment team persons.
- Demonstrate consistent and comprehensive knowledge of skills required to perform job duties and responsibilities.
- The Healthcare Technician participates in documentation of behaviors and communicates to supervising staff promptly.
- Responsible for new admission assessments, TB tests, lab draws and all related procedures as well as setting up for doctor visits either by DOXY or in office visits.
- The Healthcare Technician observes the detoxification clients, documentation, audit functions, and record keeping of all observed/inventoried/destroyed/prescribed medications
- Assessment of patients with addiction and mental health conditions, and assisting in ascertaining clinical medication management with Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director.
- Observation, documentation, and record keeping of client health status.
- Healthcare Technician is responsible for medication management and refilling of appropriate medications as well as d/c of medications.
- Responsible to document nursing progress notes, MAR's, including communicating to staff by phone and/or email.
- Documentation of BAC, vital signs, COWS, CIWAS, behavior changes, medication responses and illness.
- The Healthcare Technician works closely with the Clinical Team on client health status and presenting conditions.
- Manages complete Medication Administration Record Sheets and system.
- The Healthcare Technician picks up medications/ other medical supplies/ interact with medical director
- Work closely with Medical Director to provide education and counseling for clients and other organizational health care providers on optimal use of medicines (e.g., proper use, avoidance of over medication)
- Analyze and record Urine Analysis results.
- The Healthcare Technician sssures the prompt coordination of transportation of person served to appointments made by nursing such as urgent care, hospital and all appropriate documentation is accompanying the person served.
- Work closely with doctors to assure a clear and concise line of communication
- The Healthcare Technician follows daily shift responsibilities as designed by SCBH.
- Assist/supervise/monitor in the maintenance and cleanliness of the nursing center office.
- The Healthcare Technician assists in crisis intervention and/or initiation of emergency protocol if needed, including CPR and calling 911.
- Support and implement SCBH philosophy with reference to all program components and person served personal dignity.
- Implement IMS duties as assigned by Medical Director
- And, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Have basic knowledge in medical procedures and administering medication.
- Demonstrate necessary organization skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and able to submit the required case documentation that is of professional quality.
- Able to carry out agency policies and procedures.
- Computer skills necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
- Ability to perform work-related driving. Must maintain a valid California Driver's License, Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier, vehicle liability insurance and vehicle(s) in compliance with agency's safety standards.
- Must be able to successfully receive a Criminal Record Clearance, TB & Medical History Review Clearance, and Employment Verification and have a valid CA Drivers License and acceptable DMV Record for 5 years.
- A valid California driver's license
- First Aid Certified and CPR Certified within 30 days of employment
- Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Google Docs and other internet applications
- Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency
