Primary Purpose: The Parts Inventory Specialist is responsible for assisting the Shop Foreman in obtaining the parts and external services required for: safe, professional, streamlined, cost efficient, and effective fleet maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification - High school diploma or GED
- Procurement and/or school transportation certifications preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills: - A clear and valid Texas Driver's License
- Able to train and obtain a CDL after employment
- Knowledge of auto parts terminology and inventory controls
- Negotiation and problem-solving methods, techniques, and practices
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel with the ability to manipulate data
Preferred Experience: - 1+ years of experience with School District Transportation
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Purchasing and Receiving - Ensure shop team has the proper materials needed to perform daily duties, parts and services are procured in a cost effective and efficient manner, inventory is safely and properly stored and organized, coordinate with approved vendors, inventory controls are monitored and data is well documented.
- Locate and requisition all parts, materials, and supplies needed for vehicle repair and maintenance and order fuel. Maintain inventory at established levels and initiate purchase orders to replace as needed.
- Compiles inventory reports and forecasts inventory requirements while streamlining processes with meticulous accuracy and observation. Prevents unnecessary losses and storage costs by using modern inventory and pricing methods with fleet management software.
- Pick up parts ordered as needed or arrange for delivery.
- Maintain professional relationships with vendors and check on availability of parts and supplies. Ensure parts catalogs and other resource information are current.
- Load and unload delivery trucks as needed. Unpack items received and inspect for damage and defects.
- Work cooperatively with purchasing department to develop and define specifications and identify sources for parts and materials.
- Coordinate with Shop Foreman to ensure that parts counter is fully monitored during regular business hours
- Research and suggest value adding initiatives like equipment and technology upgrades to improve the department
Technician - Assist fleet technicians as needed with minor repairs after days' work is complete.
- This may include some or all of these tasks.
- Perform Oil Change and Lube Suspension
- Rotate; balance; air up tires; top off fluids; replace lights malfunctioning on district vehicles that are either in the shop or drive up.
Safety - Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Travel Requirements - Traveling within the district on as needed basis
Physical Demands and Working Environment - Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the auto shop
- Routine schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Often lifting light and carrying (less than 50 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours, indoor in an air-conditioned facility but may also include exposure to outside weather conditions
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
