About the Role:
Job Summary

The ECMO Coordinator is responsible for the activities surrounding the operations of the ECMO Program on a 24-hour basis including leadership and direction of personnel and coordination with ancillary departments. The Coordinator will participate in the assessment of staff and the evaluation of program performance. The Coordinator is the liaison between ECMO specialists/staff, nursing, department managers and directors, providers, and NGMC administration. He/she has accountability and responsibility for the effective and efficient use of the workforce, performance improvement initiatives, and stewardship of material resources in the department. This individual must work as an independent leader as well as work in collaboration with the Operations Manager/Director ensuring excellent communication for a consistent approach to clinical operations for high quality patient care. Assists in the advancement of the professional practice environment by communicating the NGHS nursing strategic direction and focusing on activities that support the nursing strategic direction. Assists with overall clinical governance and other projects as assigned. Is a professional member of VOICE providing feedback on issues being addressed at meetings. This position requires scheduled on call and call back as needed to meet the needs of the department.


Minimum Job Qualifications

• Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. Professional certification in either a clinical or education specialty within two (2) years. Professional organization membership within three (3) months of hire into the role.
  
• Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree
  
• Minimum Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years or greater experience in the care of ECMO patients
  
• Other: A degree in nursing (either BSN or MSN). Experienced neonatal, pediatric or adult intensive care registered nurse with a strong ICU background (minimum two [2] years of ICU experience). Prior training and expertise in ECMO required with experience in ECMO coordination.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

• Adheres to goals and objectives of the department and undertakes comprehension and explanation of variances.
  
• Shows innovation in reducing expenses through lean practices.
  
• Understands and promotes the mission, vision, and values of the hospital system to the staff.
  
• Oversees ECMO program development: Develops, maintains, and updates all policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  
• Develops, coordinates, and implements an educational program for ECMO specialists including: certification training, routine in-services, re-certification (yearly and routine), and competency training. Collects and ensures ECMO specialists/staff competencies and certification records.
  
• Develops, performs, and maintains quality initiatives to audit outcomes and patient follow-up. Collects and maintain the ELSO Registry.
  
• As requested, serves on hospital committees; assists with clinical pathways, protocols, standard of work, or order set creation/modification that involve the ECMO Program.
  
• Regularly meets with and communicates technical and operational changes to staff providing information that may affect their work. Seeks input and recommendations on ways to improve operations. Meets with Medical Director, ancillary managers/directors, and hospital administration as needed.
  
• Monitors maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and instruments. Confirms appropriate response from representatives to correct malfunctions. Evaluates equipment before placing into service for patient testing. Investigates and recommends the purchase of new products or equipment.
  
• Develops, maintains, and participates in staffing availability for 24-hour coverage.
  
• Completes personnel management modules as assigned by Human Resources including Employee Engagement.
  
• Produces the required volume of work and actively engages in meeting productivity metrics.
  
• Assists department manager or director with work schedules, disciplinary actions, and other assigned projects as needed.
  
• Works with shift personnel and other supervisors to facilitate departmental harmony and engagement.
  
• Conveys positive representation of departmental services.
  
• Effectively communicates projects and changes to staff as needed.
  
• Effectively completes routine quality surveillance of ECMO services to all customers.
  
• Demonstrates behaviors that reflect integrity, supports objectivity and foster trust in the profession and in its professionals.
  
• Continually strives to improve professional competence and represent his/her credentialed status in an accurate manner.
  
• Completes all paperwork as needed and meets deadlines.
  
• Develops, implements, and oversees all budgeting for the ECMO program, including operational and capital budgets, as needed.
  
• Successfully completes mentoring class. Assists with mentoring of Registered Nurses when other mentor resources have been assigned. May mentor more as desired.
