GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Special Trips, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students riding school buses or multifunction school activity buses (MFSAB) to and from school related activities, i.e., field trips, athletic events, et cetera.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Transport students to school related activities
- Transports students in a safe and efficient manner.
- Operates and maintains all related equipment in a high state of readiness, i.e., bus two-way radio, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and et cetera.
- Maintains records to support work activities, i.e., trip reports, trip books, maps, et cetera.
- Serves as substitute school bus driver when not scheduled for field trips and athletic trips to fulfill minimum weekly hours guarantee.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Three (3) years of CDL (P & S endorsement) driving experience
- Must have possession of a Class B commercial driver's license CDL-B with P and S (passenger and school bus) endorsements with air brakes as defined by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Possession or can obtain prior to transporting students for the first time First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles that shows, within the preceding five years, there has been no convictions of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, convictions of refusing to take a blood or breath test, convictions of a felony, or assignment to any alcohol safety action program or driver alcohol rehabilitation program pursuant to 18.2-271.1 of the Code of Virginia or, within the preceding 12 months, there have been no convictions of two or more moving traffic violations or has not been required to attend a driver improvement clinic by the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles pursuant to 46.2-498 of the Code of Virginia; candidates who have been residents of Virginia for fewer than five (5) years and held a driver's license in another state prior to moving to Virginia must provide a copy of the out-of-state driving record(s) needed to provide a five (5) year driving history.
- No bus driver may be employed in another capacity later than the previous eight (8) hours prior to the start of driving a school bus or multi-function activity bus (MSFAB) the following day.

- Laws and regulations governing Pupil Transportation from the Department of Education and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Work environment is indoors and outdoors, with moderate noise, temperatures that are subject to extreme cold or hot, and frequent exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is medium work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
