Position Profile
Guiding Star Southwest, a division of Southwest Coalition, Inc., is seeking a dedicated Sonographer to join its mission in expanding life-affirming medical services for women in the Borderland region encompassing El Paso, Texas, and Southern New Mexico. As an affiliate of the national Guiding Star Project and inspired by St. Mary, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Guiding Star Southwest is committed to delivering trauma-informed healthcare that respects the whole person by considering a woman’s mind, body, and soul. The organization’s focus spans the full spectrum of women’s health, from puberty through perimenopause, and emphasizes fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and motherhood, while striving to reduce trauma by advocating against societal pressures that may compromise the natural functions of a woman’s body. What the Role Entails
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Radiology Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) to join our medical team. The Sonographer will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients, providing high-quality images and accurate interpretations to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. This role requires in-depth knowledge of ultrasound technology, anatomy, and medical imaging principles, as well as excellent communication and patient care skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ultrasound Imaging: Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts examinations, following established protocols and safety guidelines. Utilize advanced imaging techniques and equipment to acquire high-quality images for interpretation.
- Patient Care and Communication: Interact with patients in a compassionate and professional manner, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring their comfort and safety during the examination. Obtain and document relevant medical history and patient information, collaborate with the medical team, and provide preliminary findings as required.
- Image Acquisition and Analysis: Use ultrasound equipment to capture and optimize diagnostic images, adjusting technical parameters and applying appropriate imaging modalities and techniques based on patient conditions. Analyze and interpret sonographic findings, identifying normal and abnormal structures, and documenting observations accurately for physician review.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere to strict quality control and quality assurance standards in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Perform equipment maintenance, troubleshoot technical issues, and report any malfunctions or deficiencies promptly. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall ultrasound service.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed and accurate records of examinations, patient history, and pertinent findings in the electronic health record (EHR) and other designated systems. Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing diagnostic findings, measurements, and observations for timely delivery to referring physicians.
- Collaboration and Professional Development: Collaborate effectively with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to discuss cases, clarify clinical indications, and provide additional imaging guidance as needed. Stay updated with advancements in ultrasound technology, attend continuing education programs, and maintain relevant certifications and licensure in both Texas and New Mexico.
- Agrees with and is willing to uphold and adhere to the foundational principles in accordance with our Personnel Policies and Conflict Resolution Agreement.
- Study the Texas Pregnancy Care Network (TPCN) manual, policies and procedures, to maintain certification & good standing. Prioritize ongoing and regular review and understanding of critical issues. Strive for excellence and expertise in compliance with all details of TPCN contract service requirements and guidelines.
- Support Interdepartmental staff as directed
- Participate in Outreach events in assigned roles and as needed during the events.
- Participate in professional development training & opportunities as directed
- Mobile Unit Services: Safely operate the Mobile Unit Vehicle to transport ultrasound equipment and personnel to designated locations. Provide scanning ultrasound services within the Mobile Unit, following established protocols and ensuring high-quality imaging results. Ensure the proper setup, calibration, and maintenance of ultrasound equipment on the Mobile Unit.
- Mobile Medical Unit:Collaborate with the Medical Operations Manager to receive approval for scheduling and conducting ultrasound services on the Mobile Unit.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be a professed, faithful, and engaged Christian and be passionately pro-life, exhibiting a reverence for life at all ages from conception to a natural death
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; Be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to execute duties with little supervision and work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Must have or be willing to acquire a thorough fact-based knowledge of pregnancy, abortion, and related health issues, as well as a strong critical thinking and problem-solving skill ability.

- Strong knowledge of ultrasound principles, instrumentation, and anatomy.
- Proficiency in performing a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
- Proficient in commonly-used computer programs and applications, such as Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, email, project management apps (Asana), time clock, messaging apps, and other relevant technologies
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with patients and medical professionals.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images
- Medical specialties: Ob/Gyn (Preferred)
- 1+ year experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, preferably in a medical or hospital setting (Preferred)
- Schedule: Monday - Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM & Saturday from 8 AM - 12 PM (Preferred)
- Language: English (Required)and Spanish (Preferred)
- Regularly required to walk, stand, drive, sit for long periods of time (Required)
- Must be proficient at entering data in a quick and efficient manner (Required)
- Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds. (Required)
- License/Certification:
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer License (Required) OR ARRT Certification (Required)

- Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable personal vehicle for transportation (Required)
