Job description

UH Hilo, Student Affairs, full-time, temporary, not to exceed June 30, 2024, to begin approximately April 2024, pending position clearance and availability of funding. 

Duties: Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Student Employment provides support to program through research/development and coordinating/implementation of program directives.Campus Outreach: Commitment to establishing partnerships with university faculty/staff and community members and organizations. Oversee program relations/ collaboration with identified campus partners and other stakeholders for internship/apprenticeship opportunities and special projects. Serves as liaison between UH Hilo and community partners in developing career pathways through Internship or Experiential Learning Placements. Organize and execute placement agreements for student in Off- Campus Internship/Apprenticeship assignments in congruence with UH Hilo policies. Oversee program relations/collaboration with identified campus partners and serves as liaison between UH Hilo and community partners for the American Reads/ Counts program. Oversee and Coordinate SEOTY (Student Employee of the Year) Awards Process. Collaboration and Coordination of Annual UH Hilo Campus Career Fair. Maintenance/review and updates required to support databases for external internships and job postings for use by current students and UH Hilo Alumni. Oversee maintenance/review and updates required to maintain program websites and social media accounts for student support and outreach. Assist in verifying placement sites have clear workplace requirements, including information on health and safety, dress code, working hours and communication methods. Assist with creation and presentation training modules for students on topics such as: Career/Life Skills and Strengths, Resume and Cover letters, Interview skills and career destination. Program Planning and Management: Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Student Employment, provides training and support to supervisors of student assistants relevant to their role. Performs administrative tasks as they pertain to daily operations including providing support to students and supervisors. Assist in daily operations including providing support to students and supervisors. Assist with supervision and coordination of the Student Employment Program's Student Assistant(s) in daily operation, and as they pertain to student success. Provide support for employer inquiries about internship development and best practices. Support students in placement and activity structure to ensure satisfactory work performance. Participate in collection of data and review of programs and services provided to students. Collaborate with Student Employment staff to ensure compliance with Federal, State and University rules and regulations that govern the administration of Federal Work Study and General Funded Student Employment programs as they pertain to the University of Hawaii at Hilo Student Employment Program. Provides support for student assistants by participating in the development or coordinating and implementation of training modules for Student Employees professional development. Participates in professional development with appropriate professional organizations. Attends workshops and other in-service training as needed or required. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Professional Work Experience Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field and 2 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student support services in a university or college; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student employment/career development demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with student employment/career development. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of student employment. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, including the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications. Demonstrated knowledge of student employment procedures and processes. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and implement projects with complex logistics involving multiple tasks and priorities. Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt cultural competency skills to respond to needs of a diverse student population. Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff of all level of employers, faculty/staff students and alumni.

Desirable Qualifications: Possession of a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology or Communications. Minimum 3 years professional experience at a post-secondary educational institution. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in student employment/career services. Experience with UH Content Management Systems or equivalent for website content. Experience with video editing software or other graphics programing. Functional knowledge and understanding of career assessments and skill surveys. Functional knowledge of Title IX and FERPA laws.

Pay range: PBA minimum $4,102/month
