Job description
Faculty–Studio Art + Foundations: Full-time 10-month, tenure track, assistant professor position teaching foundational studio two-dimensional design and drawing classes each semester, along with another media course such as advanced drawing/illustration, digital photography, jewelry/metalsmithing, printmaking, or sculpture. Some of the principal duties required of this position include teaching a 3/3 course load, sustaining an active studio practice and exhibition record, active engagement in committee service, maintaining regular office hours, academic advising, developing curriculum, and participating in campus and community life. The appointment is scheduled to begin August 2024.
Requirements: MFA in a relevant studio art discipline. While there is opportunity to teach graduate students, applicants should possess an enthusiasm and commitment to undergraduate teaching. Preferred qualifications include:
· previous college/university teaching experience
· experience teaching studio foundation courses
· evidence of an active creative practice with an interdisciplinary or expanded media skillset
· expertise that could contribute to the departmental or university international programming, especially African or Scandinavian Art/Design

General Information: The Missouri Southern State University Department of Art and Design integrates a university liberal arts education with professional training in art. We develop artists who then become designers, teachers, and studio artists through two BFA programs (design, studio art), a BSEd in art education, and a BA in visual art. Certificates in illustration, interdisciplinary photography, new media, and publication design along with minors in art history, graphic design, and studio art are also offered. The department features a large permanent study collection of African Art and offers faculty opportunities to lead short term international trips or the department’s five-week Summer in Scandinavia study abroad program.
