Rate of pay: $13.00/hr - $16.30/hr

Shift: Practice runs Monday - Friday from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Must have swimming experience.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the integral part of teaching all YMCA competitive swimming and diving programs to gain the swimming skills necessary to graduate to the next level of instruction.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 16 years of age. The Swim/Dive Coach must possess the competence and confidence to administer a safe program for all participants. The Swim/Dive Coach must demonstrate good communication and problem solving skills along with a good understanding of the community that he/she is working with. Upon hire, the individual must possess a current CPR and First Aid certification. Additionally, upon hire the following eLearning courses through the LCDC must be completed: Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving with completed workbook (available for download within the eLearning), and I Hear You: Service with CARE . Within 90 days of hire, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement, and Foundations of Listen First trainings required. Within 6 months of hire, Engaging with Families training required. Get SMART is preferred. Job specific certification preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
A genuine willingness to work with youth, parents, staff and volunteers is a must. This individual must be of sound mind and good character and must possess good communication skill. They must be safety minded at all times and must show Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility values. This individual must familiarize themselves with YMCA rules and policies.

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
This individual needs to be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds. If individual must left and carry more than 30 pounds, they must ask for assistance from another staff member. This individual may be required to stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility.

JOB DUTIES:

* 1. Provides direct teaching leadership to each swimming participant in each class of instruction.
* 2. Role model all aspects of SMART pledge.
* 3. While instructing, maintain all aquatic standards required by the YMCA of the USA for each skill level.
* 4. Know all emergency procedures and how to apply them.
* 5. Shares responsibility in interpreting and communicating child's progress to parents.
* 6. Has written lesson plans available for substitutes for each day of each class taught.
* 7. Conducts themselves in an appropriate and professional manner with staff and participants in all areas of the YMCA.
8. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment. Assists in proper storage of aquatic equipment.
9. Other duties:
A. Attends all staff meetings and staff training sessions.
B. Performs all other duties as assigned.
