Responsibilities:
The Phlebotomist will assist the HarmonyCares Medical Group (HCMG) Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.
- Serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures
- Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with the clinician order and bringing discrepancies to the attention of Practice Manager
- Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients
- Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
- Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and observing isolation procedures
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating and noting times of collection and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
- Maintains safe, secure, healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
- Serves and protects the hospital or healthcare facility community by adhering to professional standards, institutional policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements
- Takes vital signs as needed
- Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab
- Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing
- Logs information in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
High School Diploma
Phlebotomist Certification
CPR Certification
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record
Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks
Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
Experienced in appropriate IT technology such as IPad and GPS
Interpersonal skills and compassion
Ability to work independently, analyze information, think critically and problem solve
Attention to detail
Procedural and organizational skills
Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural setting
Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients
Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
Ability to read and understand road maps
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Six months of experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care
