Job description

Overview : The Financial Literacy Assistant will provide assistance to the Financial Literacy Coordinator with advertising financial literacy events. The student employee will be trained on administrative tasks, customer service, and be able to deliver information about the College, financial literacy events as well as steps to the financial aid process and related technologies. Must follow all federal, state and institutional laws including the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Will work on special projects as needed by staff.

Campus Location : Skokie

Length of Employment : March- May 2024, with the opportunity for renewal.

Hours Needed : 10-15 hour per week withing regular office hours of Monday- Friday: 8:30 - 5:00 pm.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes :

-Greets students and delivers general information. (CM, PF)

- Assists students with accessing their financial aid records and information. (CM, PF)

- Make and answers phone calls on behalf of the office. (CM)

- Office support and record maintenance (scanning/filing, copying). (TC)

- Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of paperwork containing personal or academic information (PF)

- Communicate with staff and supervisor regarding any challenges or issues that arise during each assignment and collaborate with staff in finding resolutions. (CT, TW)

- Complete other projects as assigned by the supervisor and office staff. (PF, TW)

Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Other abilities ):

Qualified candidates will have the following competencies and skills:

- Must be currently enrolled at Oakton College and in at least 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer, or students continuing registration into the following Fall semester.

- Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.

- Excellent in-person and telephone customer service and communication skills.

- Able to handle a large volume of tasks and trusted to work independently.

- Must have good organizational skills, general computer skills, attention to details and multitask skills.

- General office skills such as typing, filing and ability to operate office machines needed.

- Dependable and flexible with work schedule required.

- Current Oakton GPA will be used in consideration of candidates.
