Coordinate and provide lymphedema management services to patients of WVU Hospitals. Services will include patient evaluation, treatment, and referral to appropriate other services as requested by physicians.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master of Science in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy

2. Current certification in the state of West Virginia or licensure obtained within 90 days of hire.

3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

EXPERIENCE:

1. 2 years' experience as a licensed physical therapist or occupational therapist.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Dr. Vodder certified manual lymph drainage therapist or have completed a nationally recognized Lymphedema certification program or LANA certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Direct or relevant experience in program development preferred.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Manages the treatment of Lymphedema Therapy services in support of the hospital's mission, to provide the highest standard of patient care within the limit of available resources. Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient need and available resources.

2. Provide Lymphedema therapy evaluations and rehabilitation consultations as requested by referring physician to patients seen at the WVU Medicine Clinics at the Ruby Memorial Hospital campus. Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach. Uses standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery.

3. Complete all documentation as required in the evaluation process and develop plan of care. Complete appropriate billing.

4. Performs evaluation of patient response to tasks performed and delegated; including Patient Profile Assessment for safe patient handling; collaborates with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.

5. Provide or recommend any supplies or equipment needed by patient to carry out lymphedema rehabilitation care plan.

6. Schedule patients for follow-up at WVU Hospitals Clinics or facilitate treatment at a facility near patient's residence.

7. Maintains professional competence and proficiency to assure services consistent with national and professional standards of care. Remains abreast of current and/or new treatment techniques and the literature to support such interventions.

8. Develop and/or revise all documentation required to provide lymphedema services.

9. Participates in the Performance Improvement program of the Rehabilitation Services department with emphasis on occupational therapy, to assure the delivery of appropriate, timely and cost-effective services.

10. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital's goals and objectives.

11. Participates in department budget process, to assure compliance with the hospital financial goals and objectives. Submits accurate charges for services rendered for patients, according to departmental policies and procedures utilizing the billing system via the patient's EMR.

12. Demonstrates regard for the dignity, respect, and safety of all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel, as defined in the philosophy of the organization.

13. Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the hospital is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

14. Carries out oversight responsibilities to ensure supervision of therapy assistants, students and volunteers.

15. Participates in education and training of West Virginia University staff, students, patients, and family members to assure the appropriate delivery of care and to achieve the WVU Hospital mission.

1. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms.

2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.


3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
