Who we are looking for:
Re:Car is looking for a dynamic, experienced Design Release Engineer to join our growing team. The Foundation Brakes Release Engineer will be responsible for the foundation braking components of the brake system, including brake rotors, calipers (including park brake function), brake lines and hoses, and other brake system hardware (as needed). This position will be responsible for understanding the vehicle’s technical specifications and performance targets, how these targets influence component level requirements, and how to ensure targets are met throughout the life of the vehicle by creating and maintaining APQP documentation.
What you get to do:
- Lead development of cost, weight, and functionally efficient foundation brake components and systems
- Have a direct impact on vehicle braking performance and NVH by being responsible for the design and release of calipers, rotors, brake lines and hoses, brake pedal and wheel bearing assemblies.
- Apply engineering disciplines and take on full responsibility for APQP documentation including: DFMEA, Engineering Specifications, DVP&R, Drawings, Control Plans
- Collaborate with Purchasing in the sourcing of new ride control components/systems, conducting supplier technical reviews to ensure the best source for the product from a functional and financial perspective
- Ensure compatibility with interfacing systems and components including attaching hardware and joint design
- Manage changes to parts/systems and resolve all functional, durability, and assembly issues identified
- Deliver your products to meet our quality and reliability requirements and arrive on time for program milestones, with all necessary documentation and identification/labelling
- Lead Design Reviews for each component/system at required milestones
- Act as the primary liaison between Re:Car and our suppliers of the parts under your umbrella
- Engage with multiple cross functional teams (Body, Vehicle Integration, and others)
- Ensure validation of ride control components/systems, reviewing test loads, set ups, reports, and results for both internal and external testing
- Create or assist in the creation of Product Assembly Documents and ensure joint development for your parts
- Engage with Chassis Architecture, Chassis Systems Engineering, Vehicle Integration (Vehicle Dynamics and NVH), Vehicle Evaluation and Verification, and Manufacturing Engineering to deliver robust ride control components and systems to production that meet vehicle level performance and component requirements
- Be onsite at the manufacturing facility in support of pre-production builds and resolution of any issues that arise as production ramps up
What you bring to the team:
- 5+ years of experience with automotive Chassis engineering responsibilities.
- Applications-specific experience in any two of the following areas/components:
- Brake calipers and friction materials
- Electric park brakes
- Brake rotors
- Brake lines and hoses
- Basic skills in Catia (opening and saving models/drawings, editing drawing, section cutting and taking measurements, etc). Modelling skills are also a plus.
- An understanding of the APQP process and related documentation
- Experience working within a PLM and releasing components and processing engineering changes
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or equivalent from an ABET accredited or equivalent program.
- Demonstrated team orientation and project management skills
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
- Functional experience with all NHTSA/FMVSS, CARB, EPA, FCC, or other regulatory requirements
- Technical writing and documentation experience
