Director of Supply Planning and Procurement

Moon Juice is seeking a collaborative and highly detail-oriented director to lead our Procurement function, inclusive of Supply Planning, Purchasing, Production, and Inventory Management. Reporting to the VP Supply Chain, this role works closely with our internal team members in Sourcing, Product Development, Demand Planning, and Logistics and externally with our raw material suppliers, packaging suppliers, contract manufacturers, and co-packers.
The Director will manage planning parameters, supply/demand balance, COGs, lead times, and OOS risks. This role will troubleshoot production delays and partner with our product development team to solve for challenges in testing and QC. This role is responsible for overall inventory management which includes the inventory reconciliation process and the management of excess, expiration risks, obsolescence, and inventory reserves for raw materials and components. This role also oversees the procurement and production that takes place at our LA-based commissary in partnership with the General Manager of that location.

Moon Juice HQ is based in Santa Monica, CA and requires in-office collaboration 2 days/week.
Key Responsibilities
Supply Planning
- Translate demand requirements into a supply plan and purchase order flow. Own the supply/demand balance to determine optimal supply strategies and cadence.
- Own the monthly inventory reconciliation process for all raw materials and components that are located across our network of suppliers, contract manufacturers, and co-packers and utilize these goods in accordance with the overall supply plan.
- Proactively communicate potential stock-outs and risks to the supply strategy to company-wide stakeholders.
- Develop more automated planning tools and processes that consider planning parameters and lead times.
- Partner with suppliers to develop strategic stocking programs to achieve a desired service level target for all key components and raw materials.
- Manage weekly inventory reports identifying OOS, expiration risks, and excess and obsolescence of raw materials and components. Partner with stakeholders in Sourcing, Demand Planning, and Finance to mitigate risk to cash flow and profitability.
- Analyze components, packaging, and finished good order quantities based on combination of production demand forecast, historical usage, pipeline inventory level and other key inputs such as run-out estimate and EOQ (economic order quantity).
Procurement and Production
- Own the purchase-to-pay process, ensuring that supply can meet demand.
- Support the Procurement Analyst (a direct report) who owns executing, maintaining, and tracking all POs for finished goods, packaging, raw materials, and marketing requirements within NetSuite ERP and partner with suppliers to align on deliverables. Ensure accuracy of item set-up and BOM maintenance in NetSuite.
- Ensure on-time deliveries: provide weekly summaries of Open POs, ensuring that dates and quantities are updated based on supplier confirmations.
- Investigate any past due or open POs and ensure 3-way matching: POs, receipts, invoices.
- Negotiate prices and payment terms with current and prospective suppliers and contract manufacturers; hold our partners accountable for agreed upon deliverables.
- Track vendor scorecard metrics and partner with the Sourcing team to communicate performance against KPIs to our suppliers and contract manufacturers on an annual basis. Collaborate with Sourcing to identify gaps in the supplier matrix and make recommendations for potential partners to vet.
- Partner with external partners to solve for any production challenges in order to protect product integrity and mitigate delays. Proactively communicate potential challenges and solutions to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Development to ensure new formulations and packaging concepts can be commercialized within our standard workflow and procure components for the timely launch of new products.
- Partner with cross-functional partners to enhance tools and processes that will improve how we bring goods to market. Identify and deliver efficiencies throughout the supply chain to improve costs and lead times.
- Support Sourcing and Product Development to acquire and organize pertinent product data such as COAs, test results, certifications, Prop 65 documentation, and SFPs.
- Support the General Manager of the Commissary (a direct report) to ensure uninterrupted supply of products and supplies to 2 Moon Juice stores and help troubleshoot any production issues.
Core Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Procurement and Production with some time spent in Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements. Minimum 3 years leading a team and managing 2+ direct reports.
- Experience in overseeing manufacturers, co-packers, component suppliers, and third-party logistics partners. Pre-existing relationships with relevant suppliers in the industry is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully creating mathematical, forecasting, planning and inventory policies.
- Deep expertise with ERP and data warehouse tools (NetSuite preferred).
- Deep expertise with Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to lookups and pivot tables.
- Strong project management skills in support of cross-functional team activities. Experience with project management software tools such as Asana is a plus.
- Superior problem solving and analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative) focused on root causes; able to bring a constructive, solution-oriented mindset to troubleshoot obstacles and challenges in real time.
- Clear and organized communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a knack for planning and prioritization.
- Able to manage competing priorities with thoroughness while driving continuous improvements to meet the needs of a high-growth business.
