Atkins Living-Learning Center (LLC) builds and encourages academic excellence through the study and expression of African American history and culture, as well as through the development of leadership that fosters strong community building, intellectual and social growth, and an ethic of care.

Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the faculty in the department to achieve the objectives of the Atkins Learning Living Center (ALLC).
- Manages student projects and activities.
- Serves as a liaison with IU Capital Planning and Facilities, Resident Advisors, and other key offices.
- Attends monthly LLC meetings to ensure accordance with IU Residence Programs and Services (RPS) policies and compliance with deadlines and campus mandates. Coordination and communication with RPS are essential to the success of the ALLC.
- Creates and conducts innovative workshops, programming, research, and dissemination of projects to further the pedagogical goals of the ALLC.
- Plans annual community-wide events including the faculty/staff welcome week reception, awards reception, founder's day luncheon, senior dinner, and themed events for faculty, staff, and alumni and supervises students and hourly workers involved in these activities.
- Creates and advises multiple student committees.
- Instructs and supervises students in budget creation and management.
- Writes and produces an annual report.
- Writes monthly informative pieces about the ALLC for the weekly Atkins newsletter (once a semester it will expand to once per month).
- Creates weekly reports to maintain understanding between Atkins and the African American & African Diaspora Studies (AAADS) students.
- Analyzes budget data and develops a proposal for funding for the next fiscal year for both Atkins accounts.
- Manages finances of the ALLC, in concert with the Chair and department College multi-unit FO.
- Updates alumni database as needed and sends out emails to that end.
- Edits and produces online alumni newsletter at least twice a year.
- Plans alumni programming, including reunions.
- Analyzes past year's admissions data, talks with the College Office of Direct Admissions, and develops a plan to increase the number of direct admit students living in Atkins.
- Works on recruitment with the College of Arts and Sciences Direct Admit program, and RPS.
- Evaluates applications, accepting/rejecting students according to ALLC standards.
- Counsels potential and accepted students and their parents while maintaining sensitivity to privacy guidelines.
- Works with RPS assignments staff to assess and monitor online assignments to Atkins.
General Responsibilities
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
- Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting one-on-one to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.
- Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
- Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; may prepare reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- May serve on committees and perform student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field
Preferred
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
