Position Summary:
The estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the cost and materials required for construction projects for both Civil and Preservation scopes of work. This role requires excellent communication skills and will collaborate closely with Project Management, Superintendents, Subcontractors, and Vendors to ensure accurate project estimates.
Core Responsibilities:
- Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to understand project requirements.
- Conduct on-site visits and assessments to gather relevant data for estimating purposes.
- Perform accurate and thorough take-offs.
- Utilize construction estimating software and tools to prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive project estimates and budgets.
- Research and analyze material and labor costs to ensure estimates are competitive and align with market rates.
- Identify and quantify potential cost risks and opportunities.
- Prepare and present detailed cost estimates, proposals, and bid packages to clients and/or project stakeholders.
- Negotiate pricing with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain the best possible pricing for materials and services.
- Provide ongoing support to project teams by assisting with value engineering, cost analysis, and budget management efforts.
- Create comprehensive construction schedules, considering project and client requirements, resource availability, and constraints.
- Collaborate with Project Management teams to regularly update project schedules to optimize resource utilization, minimize project durations, and maximize efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience.
- Experience in HCSS HeavyBid and Primavera P6 scheduling software preferred.
- Experience in estimating Civil and Pavement Preservation preferred.
- Ability to multi-task over multiple projects ongoing at the same time.
- Strong organizational, follow-through, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Ability to "take ownership" of the job, think independently and be a problem solver.
