PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
This position is responsible for bringing new product configurations into production, enhancing existing products and improving production processes to support RBS growth initiatives into new markets as well as with existing customers.
The Engineering Technician is responsible for increasing our product release rate and maximizing profitability with robust designs and production processes. This includes assisting with estimates, development of routings and inspection documents, championing cost reduction initiatives, designing of fixturing, material and tooling selection, utilizing lean principals to improve production processes, and leveraging suppliers when appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support projects for new and existing products from inception through completion.
- Utilize solid models, drawings, and layouts to support effective communication with customers, production, sourcing, inspection and assembly.
- Create and maintain production routings for all RBS items.
- Support production process optimization projects from inception through completion, including Continuous Improvement (CI) projects and support Kaizen events.
- Work closely with the engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot, optimize performance and implement design improvements as needed on new and existing designs to improve manufacturability, including fixture/tooling design when needed.
- Develop and maintain inspection documents for new and existing products to ensure RBS product quality and adherence to customer specifications.
- Process improvement requests (aka Orange Dots) from production utilizing markups, time studies, capability studies and order history to implement robust updates.
- Assist with resolving process/production issues including corrective actions and helping to reduce / eliminate scrap and rework.
- Ensure new, updated and existing processes are capable and robust per RBS APQP, PPAP & metallurgical requirements to ensure specifications are adhered to.
- Assist with creating and updating process work instructions.
- Provide required specifications and drawings as needed to support sourcing of materials, tooling, inspection gages and outside processes.
- Provide input on the selection and justification of new and improved manufacturing capital expenditures and programs to enhance RBS' capabilities.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Follow all safety rules (OSHA and Company Polices).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Computer, calculator, inspection and measuring equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education
- 2-year technical degree or equivalent combination of education and technical experience required.
Experience:
- 3-5 years in engineering technician roles in a manufacturing environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principals
- Strong 3D modeling and visualization skills
- Solid experience with GD&T tolerancing
- Experience with 3D CAD required, SolidWorks preferred
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Good experience with machining processes desired
- Good experience with metals and heat-treating processes a plus
- Proven analytical and math skills
