Education Week, a mission-driven, nonprofit news organization that publishes informed, independent, and highly respected education journalism, is seeking a Digital News Specialist to join our editorial team.
Job Summary The Digital News Specialist plays a key role in Education Week’s news operations, working to ensure that Education Week’s content is discoverable and engaging. In addition to regular production tasks, like producing newsletters and updating the homepage, the Digital News Specialist is responsible for rethinking or improving approaches to producing, presenting, and delivering content. The Digital News Specialist works closely with colleagues on editorial, social, visual, engagement, and revenue teams.
Education Week's Digital News Specialist will have the opportunity to:
- Join a mission-oriented newsroom working to inform and inspire those working in K-12 education
- Work with energetic and expert journalists passionate about storytelling and audience engagement
- Use best-in-class technologies to deepen engagement with Education Week's journalism, both via newsletters and the edweek.org website.
- Work on visually compelling stories, data presentations, and interactive and immersive experiences
- Thrive and grow professionally doing challenging work at an organization that values collaboration and innovation
- Maintain and optimize news products that support quality journalism, serve audiences, grow and retain subscribers, and generate revenue
This is a full-time, hybrid position. The Digital News Specialist will be required to work in-person in our Bethesda, MD, office at least two days a week. The majority of work will take place during normal working hours, with some occasional activities required on nights or weekends.

Key Responsibilities - Producing and sending daily and weekly newsletters
- Producing and maintaining pages on edweek.org, including the homepage
- Developing rich and engaging ways of presenting news and information
- Coordinating the promotion of Education Week content
- Developing and refining workflows for the production, publishing, and promotion of content
- Optimizing Education Week’s news products to ensure they are meeting editorial, audience, and revenue goals
- Helping maintain and improve our content management system and third-party editorial tools
- Keeping up with trends and advancements in the field of online news
- Writing, reporting, and editing (as needed)
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in journalism , communications, or a related field
- 2+ years’ experience in digital content strategy, web production, or a related field
- Understanding of best practices around digital storytelling, audience engagement, news products, and editorial workflows
- Detail-oriented, deadline-focused, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to incorporate web analytics into data-driven decision-making
- Experience with a web-based CMS (Brightspot, Wordpress, or related system)
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS
- Familiarity with SEO or A/B testing
