English Teacher

Lawrence Academy

Location

Job description

LA is seeking a full-time English teacher beginning in August 2024. The student-centered English curriculum at LA encourages students to develop English-specific cognitive skills, exposes them to all genres of literature, and creates opportunities for students to do the work of writers. Literature and language are the cornerstones of the curriculum in a collaborative English department.

This full-time position will be responsible for teaching four sections of English and being fully involved in school life as articulated below. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach throughout the 9-12 English curriculum. Candidates must also be very comfortable working one-on-one with students and be open and accessible for extra help; important components of being a teacher at Lawrence Academy.  Candidates should also embrace developing learning strategies to help a range of students to achieve success.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, candidates must be willing to engage in all aspects of boarding school life from curricular, co-curricular (primarily athletics), and extracurricular programming to residential life programming. Campus housing is available for faculty positions. All members of the faculty are part of our residential program and have regular weekday night duty and some weekend duties.
