Medical Referrals Specialist

Hours:  Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm

Experience:

Medical front office expereince is required. Referrals experience is a plus. EPIC expereince is also a plus, but not required.

Job Summary:

Performs a wide range of administrative duties to include, but not limited to: processing incoming referrals, entering patient demographics, verifying insurance authorization, scheduling patient appointments, communicating with referring providers and specialty providers.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for tracking and processing all incoming patient referrals.
• Ensures that referrals are addressed in a timely manner, consistently prioritizing by urgency of patient condition.
• Assembles information concerning patient’s clinical background and referral needs.
• Works closely with insurance authorization team to ensure all pre-authorization requirements are met prior to scheduling patients. Works with authorization staff to ensure authorizations cover services needed.
• Obtains and enters surgeon orders for any necessary pre-appointment testing.
• Serves as a point person for new patient referrals for referring providers, patients and internal stakeholders.
• Provides superior customer service to patients, families, general public, and co-workers.
• Is a knowledgeable resource to patients/customers and internal staff, striving to build patient/customer loyalty and confidence.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrated computer experience, preferably in a Windows-based environment.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHRs) -  Experience with EPIC, preferred.

• Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintains highest standards of confidentiality. Displays professional ethnical conduct at all times.
• Demonstrates a self-driven approach with can-do attitude toward both internal and external customers.

Must be able to pass criminal background checks, drug screen and current reference checks. Must be at least 18 to apply.
