Job description

GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Designer/Drafter to join our team. This position is full-time and will serve the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance Level Required:
Uncleared - Must be able to obtain and maintain a Clearance

Per Diem / Travel Authorized:
To Be Determined

Overview:

• Produces and details routine drawings/layouts of basic components, facilities and/or systems.
• Generates and/or modifies two-dimensional drawings based on information from others.
• Develops basic computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and design models under the direction of a senior designer. 

Clearance & Citizenship Requirement:

• To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
• Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is requ  ired.

Desired Skills:

• Demonstrated mechanical design experience with the weapons program, desired.
• Experience with ASME Y14.41 Digital Product Definition Data Packages and annotated models, desired.
• Experience with practices and procedures used in the Nuclear Security Enterprise for conveying design intent to other national laboratories and production plants, desired.

About the Site:

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering ( energy.gov ).

COMPENSATION: GEM does not publish salary ranges on external job boards; all ranges listed are estimates made by vendors and not actual salary ranges. GEM’s offered compensation is dependent on candidates’ education, qualifications, and relevant years of experience.

REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing mechanical hardware assemblies and applying engineering concepts to mechanical designs.
• Working knowledge of ASME Y series design/drafting standards, including Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Experience with Creo Parametric 3D CAD Software.
• Knowledge of hardware fabrication processes.
• Demonstrated effective and efficient written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated record of developing constructive, cooperative working relationships and working with teams to meet deliverables.
• An Associates of Science degree in design/drafting or engineering practices, or equivalent work experience and directly applicable mechanical design experience.
• Demonstrated experience with CREO and PDMLink Product Lifecycle Management Software.
