Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical/Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients admitted to the medical-surgical unit with a focus on telemetry monitoring. This role involves assessing patient conditions, administering medications, implementing treatment plans, and monitoring telemetry readings to ensure timely intervention and optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough assessments of patients upon admission and throughout their hospital stay, identifying medical, surgical, and telemetry needs.
- Monitors telemetry readings and interprets cardiac rhythms, recognizing and promptly reporting any abnormalities or changes in patient status.
- Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments, diagnoses, and treatment goals.
- Administers medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed, ensuring accuracy, safety, and adherence to established protocols and best practices.
- Performs routine nursing procedures and maintains accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic health records (EHR) or other documentation systems.
- Provides education and support to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, medication management, and post-discharge care instructions.
- Monitors and evaluates patient responses to interventions, assessing for complications, side effects, and changes in clinical status, and initiating appropriate interventions as necessary.
- Coordinates patient care activities, including diagnostic tests, consultations, and discharge planning, to ensure smooth transitions across the healthcare continuum.
- Collaborates with ancillary departments, such as laboratory, radiology, and respiratory therapy, to facilitate timely diagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety initiatives, and evidence-based practice projects to enhance the quality and efficiency of nursing care delivery.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice, with a minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred, or willingness to pursue higher education in nursing.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required. Certification in Telemetry (e.g., Progressive Care Certification - PCCN) preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and make sound clinical judgments in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms, with the ability to recognize and respond to changes in patient status promptly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and compassion in patient care delivery.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required in a 24/7 healthcare environment.
