Associate Director of MBA Programs, Cornell Tech (NYC)
Position Summary
The Associate Director of MBA Programs, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Education for Cornell Tech and the Senior Director of EMBA Programs for Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, is responsible for overseeing key operational aspects of Cornell Tech MBA programs and serving as the primary contact for Cornell Tech MBA students. This position is a vital, student-centric member of the campus' Student & Academic Affairs team who manages programming and provides advising and student support for students enrolled in the Cornell Tech MBA programs. The goal of the position is to support and enhance the entire MBA student experience.
The Associate Director of MBA Programs will oversee the coordination of communication and activities, provide year-round academic advising and support and respond to Cornell Tech MBA student issues and questions starting from pre-enrollment through graduation. The role will also assist in the coordination and execution of major campus events with the Student & Academic Affairs team including masters student orientation, student community building events and the Recognition Ceremony.
In this role, the incumbent will be an integral member of a collaborative team of colleagues to support Cornell Tech MBA students including the Cornell Tech MBA Faculty Program Director, admissions, career management, and Studio as well as serve as the liaison to the Johnson School and key student support offices in Ithaca.
Cornell enrollment representatives across its administrative offices and within its colleges, schools, and units share a mission to partner with students, faculty, staff, and alumni, supporting strategic enrollment goals so that any person can find instruction in any study.
Enrollment services are carried out through a matrixed organizational system in which staff in Division of Enrollment offices serve as partner and resource for colleges, schools, and units and all staff serving enrollment functions engage in regular collaboration.

Essential Functions Include:
Student Advising, Admissions and Support - 50%
- Oversee and manage the operations of Cornell Tech MBA programs from matriculation through graduation.
- Participate in long-range planning and strategy related to admissions and operations for the MBA programs.
- Partner with the SC Johnson College of Business to develop and implement strategies to ensure that programs and services are delivered in a timely, efficient and effective matter; assessing effectiveness and determining if adjustments need to be made.
- Work with MBA student representative to student government and other MBA students in conjunction with Assistant Dean of Graduate Education and MBA Program Director to assess, develop, and deliver student programming needs.
- Benchmark MBA student programming in Ithaca and at other institutions to implement best practices to support Cornell Tech MBA students.
- Support admissions and enrollment efforts by serving on interview committees and participating in the selection process.
- Serve as the primary contact for students enrolled in Cornell Tech MBA Programs for advising, academic, and student support.
- Provide academic advising and ongoing regular support to MBA students through individual and group weekly office hours and email to answer MBA student academic and co-curricular questions.
- Develop and implement new, creative advising services that address the dynamic needs of students and faculty.
- Collaborate with staff and faculty from across the campus to provide support for complicated situations involving students in distress or crisis.
- Identify students with specific needs including students in academic jeopardy, advise students regarding difficult situations, and provide referrals when necessary.
- Provide clear and concise academic guidance to students about degree requirements, course selection, and academic policies in consultation with the Registrar and other members of Student Services.
- Anticipate potential issues for enrolled students and proactively work to resolve them.
- Advise and serve as a resource and liaison to business related Cornell Tech student clubs and organizations.
- Develop and implement tools for data collection.
- Gather and analyze student feedback and other data, and strategize with the Student & Academic Affairs team, Senior Director of EMBA Programs, Faculty Program Director and other relevant offices to determine plans for improvement to enhance the student experience.
- Demonstrate understanding and operate in compliance with federal, state and university data privacy and security regulations, policies, and best practices relating to the access and use of student records.
- Demonstrate understanding and operate in alignment with university policies and procedures to ensure legal and ethical admissions operations.
Communications and Summer Programming - 20%
- Create and implement pre-orientation communication in collaboration with key stakeholders in Ithaca and Cornell Tech to support the student transition to Cornell Tech
- Oversee communication materials and website information for enrolled MBA students in collaboration with the Student & Academic Affairs team
- Play lead role with Assistant Dean of Graduate Education, Senior Director of EMBA Programs, Assistant Director of Student & Academic Affairs, Faculty Program Director, and Johnson Registrar, in consultation with key stakeholders including faculty and career management staff, to design and implement summer schedule including orientation, class schedule, career programming, etc.
- Work with summer faculty to ensure course support needs have been met in conjunction with Student & Academic Affairs and Administrative Services Team
Student Events - 20%
- Lead the planning and implementation of one year MBA student orientation and summer community building events.
- Develop and deliver presentations at student events in conjunction with the Cornell Tech MBA Program Director and admissions team.
- Collaborate with campus partners such as MBA Program Director, Events, Facilities, and IT, to successfully organize MBA student events in fall and spring semesters.
- Establish and allocate a budget for MBA student events in collaboration with Assistant Dean of Graduate Education
- Work with Student & Academic Affairs team to plan and manage large scale student events including master's student orientation, community building events, and Recognition Ceremony
Other duties as assigned - 10%
- Special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 year's experience in higher education or equivalent combination.
- Experience working with adult students in higher education settings
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse array of stakeholders to craft and implement collaborative, high-quality academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular programing and events.
- Experience in program design, delivery, and evaluation.
- Ability to connect with students of all backgrounds and experience levels; experience advising them on academic, professional, and personal goals.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously without direct supervision and possess the ability to make sound judgment calls when necessary and relay information appropriately and consistently.
- Strong public speaking, writing, and editing skills.
- Demonstrated project management, organizational skills, and detail orientation. Must be able to balance significant complexity and competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information in accordance with University policies and FERPA regulations.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students and colleagues, both within the organization and in the wider community, and at every level of an institution's hierarchy.
- Comfortable collecting and analyzing feedback and data to drive strategic planning and outcomes
- Experience with university student information systems
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or other Master's degree in education, communication, or social sciences, preferred.
- Experience working with professional and graduate students and programs is preferred.
