In addition to providing medical services to assigned patients, the Lead Medical Provider will provide overall supervision to the other medical providers and programs onsite. Supervise and perform services such as primarily prenatal care (including but not limited to high-risk), limited office gynecology, and Comprehensive Perinatal Services Programs activities. This position has potential for Graduate Medical Education (GME) faculty appointment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct medical services to program patients of all ages.
- Provide consultation for mid-level medical providers as needed.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining professional relationship with ancillary medical, laboratory and pharmaceutical services within the community.
- Evaluate patients with complex problems and refer to appropriate specialists if problem cannot be treated in-house.
- Work in conjunction with other Medical Clinic personnel in providing ongoing health education and information on preventative medicine.
- Maintains the standards of patient care and implements the policies and procedures of the Medical Department.
- Responsible for communicating problems identified involving personnel, medical staff, patients, families and the general public to the Clinic Manager.
- Administrative duties such as assist with approving paid time off for medical providers at designated site(s), be involved in recruiting efforts as appropriate, perform annual performance reviews of Medical providers at designated site(s) as assigned.
- Perform peer review for other medical providers as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Medical Director
Experience and Skills QUALIFICATIONS:
- Maintain California Physician license required; Board Certification preferred. Out-of-state license is accepted, but must be able to obtain California license within one year.
- Maintain current DEA registration.
- Responsible for obtaining necessary continuing medical education credits; a significant portion of which should be specifically relevant to Indian Health issues.
- Two (2) years clinical experience in direct delivery of obstetrical care.
- Leadership skills in supervising, coaching, counseling and managing performance of support staff.
- Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling high stress situations.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills with acute attention to detail to write and review various reports;
- Reliable Transportation and ability to adhere to regular attendance.
- Has demonstrated the ability to work with diverse populations (experience working with Native Americans is highly desirable)
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
