Facilities Mechanic
Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair and restoration of all facilities. Will include maintenance of equipment and fixtures including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical and heating/air conditioning work. May provide facility housekeeping, as needed.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Run the daily maintenance operations of the property and buildings under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
- Inspect property and buildings for safety issues and take immediate corrective action.
- Identify building maintenance needs, prioritize work and take corrective actions
- Perform a full range of skilled building maintenance for extended periods of time.
- Perform preventative maintenance on buildings including but not limited to skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering, dry walling, plumbing and limited heating/air conditioning involving mechanical repair work.
- Perform repairs on all facility and production equipment, as needed.
- Perform repairs and maintenance according to any and all OSHA and other safety requirements, ie: lockout/tagout.
- Read and interpret sketches, diagrams and blueprints.
- Actively participate in the positive development of other facilities maintenance team and the development of technical knowledge of the team. As required, will assist in the installation of new equipment, facilities upgrades, perform repair work as needed and support production. .
Other Important Responsibilities:
- Fill in for janitor/custodial functions, when necessary.
- Source parts for repairs and regular maintenance.
- Coordinate with external service providers for equipment and facilities repair, when required.
- Timely Corrective Action response and resolution to relevant situations.
- Engage and support companywide Safety and Cleanliness Programs.
- As part of the EMS- Environment Management System, will meet compliance obligations and accountability by contributing but not limited to the company's recycling guidelines, proper waste and other environmental performance practice.
- Will be required to perform other job functions, as assigned
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Minimum 7-10 years of Maintenance Experience. Including methods, practices and equipment used in facilities management and activities, including a variety of building trades work.
- High School Graduate required. College or Trade School preferred.
- Electrical, Mechanical, Welding, Electro-Mechanical and equipment training, a plus.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in building maintenance, reconstruction and repair work.
- Experience with a virtual work order and spare parts management system preferred.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Task oriented excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize work load.
- Enthusiastic attitude, cooperative team player, adaptable to new or changing circumstances, professional demeanor, self-motivated, creative and innovative.
Physical qualifications and work environment:
- Must be able to lift 70 lbs
- Must be able to sustain physical work for 8+ hours on a standard 3 shift operation or 12+ hours per day on 24/7 operation. Also includes the following:
- Standing
- Reaching and pulling
- Sight
- Walking through shop
- Bending, climbing and crouching.
- Office environment is of moderate noise level.
- Shop noise levels are such that protective ear-coverings are recommended.
- Sometimes subject to external weather conditions.
- Short notice, overtime demand according to equipment or facility breakdowns.
- Repair work on heavy equipment often in a seated or standing position.
- Grease, oil, water exposure.
