Job Description:
Student employees within the Office of Event Services must:
- Be available to working during the summer
- Be a current University of Florida full-time student in good standing with at least a 2.0+ GPA
- Respond to and assist with emergency situations and building evacuations per department procedures or as instructed by building management staff
- Possess exceptional customer service while maintaining a high level of professionalism
- Demonstrate a desire and willingness to learn in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
- Establish an exemplary work ethic by being productive, self-motivated, and dependable
- Participate in all scheduled meetings, trainings, and evaluations
- Act as an ambassador for the Office of Event Services, Reitz Union areas as well as the University of Florida, providing accurate information and campus resources
Position Specific Responsibilities:
- Copy and distribute event diagrams and worksheets from Event Management System (EMS) software to appropriate staff
- Review Reports and update event information in the Reservation Database and with appropriate campus units as needed
- Process client contact information, Virtual Logins, cancellations, permits, and event space requests
- Provide tours to prospective clients
- Create and edit diagrams in Social Tables as directed
- Organize and maintain diagram and event files
- Provide guidance to student organizations regarding policies and procedures for events, event permits, and resources available
- Aide student organizations throughout the event permitting process including providing updates on permit status, addressing issues, and noting resources that may be required for events
- Assist with general office duties such as filing, billing, special projects, responding to email, and scheduling client appointments
- Monitors hallways, entrances and exits of event space to ensure compliance with established event policies
- Applies/removes wristbands to event participants
- Monitors event space and surrounding area for potential inappropriate, disruptive, or illegal behavior and reports it immediately to University Police officers on duty or to JWRU full-time staff on duty
- Assists with crowd control and capacity to ensure orderly evacuation in the event of an emergency
- Identifies potential disruptions in event flow before, during, and after the event
- Completes all training requirements upon being hired in a timely fashion
- Ability to commit to working 10 or more hours per week
- Other duties as assigned
Advertised Salary:
$12.00/hour
Minimum Requirements:
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) or Federal Work-Study (FWS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
Summer availability required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Although no experience is necessary to apply and all training will be provided, we would prefer candidates to:
- Demonstrate previous experience with customer service
- Provide a general knowledge of the University of Florida and the J. Wayne Reitz Union
- Be proficient with verbal and written communication
- Be CPR and First Aid Certified, or willing to obtain
