Job description

Statement of Duties

The City of Somerville is seeking a dynamic leader who can bring cutting edge thinking to help create an inclusive, equitable emergency management to a Metro Boston community. Under the direction of the Mayor and the Chief Administrator officer (CAO), the Director of Emergency Management will be responsible to expand on existing Emergency Management Program that is focused on hazard reduction and adaptability. The position will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing emergency management policies, providing training, securing grants, and creating emergency preparedness initiatives. The position is expected to be on-call and respond to emergencies outside of normal business hours. The Director of Emergency Management oversees, delegates and manages the department’s Deputy Director of Emergency Management.

Any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job qualifies.

Working Environment:

A variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Employees are subject to inclement weather, hazardous conditions, and strenuous physical exertion.

Physical Demands:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Hearing:

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Visual:

See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.


Hours:
Full-Time

Salary: 129,891.86 annualized, plus benefits

Union: Non-Union

FLSA: Non-Exempt
