Educator - Overnights
At the Tennessee Aquarium, our mission is to connect people with nature and empower them to make informed decisions about water and wildlife. Overnight Educators engage with visitors utilizing best practices in education and conservation messaging during interactions with Aquarium guests during their visit. Through education experiences, families and groups engage in fun and learning in a safe atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate evening and overnight education programs including guided tours and other special experiences.
- Encourage guests to discover, question, and participate in science while visiting. Make impromptu changes to programs to meet the needs of various audiences.
- Assist with the preparation and breakdown of facilities and materials used in overnight and evening programs.
- Greet and assist overnight participants during check in and out and remain with assigned group throughout the program.
- During overnight programs, maintain constant supervision (along with coworkers) of all participants during "waking" hours to ensure safety. When staying the night, they will sleep in the same overnight area with participants. If not staying the night, return in morning to conclude program.
- Take part in professional learning experiences in order to learn and use best practices in engaging guests.
- Actively participate in Education Department meetings, professional learning, events, programming, and special projects, when applicable.
Key Requirements
- Must be aged 18 years or older.
- Minimum of a high school degree or GED; college work or degree preferred.
- Ability and desire to work with people of all ages.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work from a schedule, multitask and adapt as the situation warrants.
- Willing to work at least two overnights per month along with a minimum of one reserve shift per month (based on bookings).
- Experience in working with people of all ages.
- First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided if needed).
- Bilingual a plus
Part-time, hourly; will include weekends, weekdays, evenings, and holidays.
