Job description
Seeking an innovative and driven Senior Product Development Engineer to lead new electromechanical product development and customization projects from concept through completion. In addition, this person will support sustaining engineering and product line simplification efforts and be a critical technical member to help secure new business.
The successful candidate will work well autonomously, and as a team collaborator, both across the organization and with customers. This newly created position is based on site at the company’s Novi, MI facility, which has an outstanding leadership team and company culture.
Responsibilities include:
- Independently lead engineered product design and development activities for highly customized electromechanical solutions and products from concept through commercialization. Effectively collaborate with marketing, supply chain, sales, and customers.
- Efficiently evaluate, develop, and implement innovative electromechanical solutions while maintaining a strong deadline orientation and ensuring product conformance with all necessary agency standards (UL, IEEE, NEMA, etc.).
- Engage cross-functional teams while managing multiple engineering projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Create and maintain all required engineering documentation (detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, performance specifications, etc., for the company’s product portfolio).
- Redesign existing products for improved function, cost reductions, portfolio simplification, and customer-driven requirements.
- Provide sustaining engineering direction, support, and improvement guidance for existing products.
- Actively engage with and support production and quality teams during product launches to ensure consistent quality.
- Support tooling choices and manufacturing process decisions and disposition first article inspection reports as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related technical discipline required. Advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of detailed design experience of mechanical, electrical, and/or electromechanical products with advanced SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software experience.
- Strong project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous projects.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques including compression mold fabrication, CNC machining, sheet metal forming, plastic injection molding, and welding.
- Familiarity with third-party testing and certification a plus (UL, IEEE, NEMA, etc.).
- Disciplined and organized self-starter who thrives in an autonomous environment and is capable of independently executing required engineering tasks with limited supervision.
- Creative and mechanically inclined with creative and hands-on problem-solving skills. Capable of developing innovative solutions for new and existing products.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, strong written & verbal communicator, capable of interacting appropriately at all organizational levels and with customers.
- Ability and desire to develop and grow beyond this role.
