THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALIST

Westwood Recreation Department

The Westwood Recreation Department seeks qualified applicants for the position of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. The purpose of this position is to develop and oversee inclusive and adaptive programs and services for community members who may need assistance or accommodations to successfully participate in a wide variety of Recreation programs. The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will manage and lead staff and volunteer hiring, training, and placement throughout the year, collaborating with community partners.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the Recreation Director and Assistant Recreation Director in developing and coordinating the delivery of inclusive opportunities for children, adults, seniors, staff and volunteers.
• Provides customer services via phone, email, written correspondence, social media and in person.
• Responds to questions and assists Town departments, applicants and in-take processes for interested applicants.
• Assists the Director and Assistant Director with a variety of special projects, including staff, volunteer and program performance evaluations.
• Plans and executes special events throughout the year to promote, advocate and build community awareness for the Therapeutic Recreation programming within the Recreation Department; participates in the planning and execution of other special community events.
• Processes and maintains a variety of confidential records and correspondence, e.g., in-take reports, to develop individual program plans.
• Processes invoices and reports from providers for supplies and equipment; orders and maintains inventory of program supplies.
• Creates, updates and maintains publication content for the Recreation Department’s Therapeutic Recreation web page, as well as Department marketing, including social media and print materials.
• Performs similar or related work as required.

Qualifications and experience: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Therapeutic Recreation or related field; completion of an accredited internship and possession of a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification, or the ability to pass said exam within 6 months of date of hire. One to three years of increasing responsibilities and related experience in Inclusion, Adaptive and Recreation industry. Behavioral training preferred.

Salary and benefits: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Salary range $65,608 - $81,936. Westwood offers an attractive benefit package which includes health, dental, life, disability insurances, flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, and a reliable pension system.
