Archaeological Field Monitor - Seasonal (Dugway, UT)

The Archaeological Field Monitor will be responsible for assisting the Cultural Environmental Monitor (CEM) with the collection of archaeological and construction activity data on a variety of terrain at construction project sites.

Duties & Responsibilities

Archaeological Field Monitors are responsible for performing on-site contractor oversight in regard to cultural resources or identified areas during construction by a contractor.

• Work independently, as well as with a team of other natural and cultural resource specialists to complete project work.
• Inspect and monitor construction contractor's work and prepare regularly scheduled inspection reports for all biological resources that have been identified as being located on or near project area.
• Compose daily narrative and time stamped monitoring logs, tracking ground disturbance and cultural resources found.
• Assist in the preparation and writing of reports while applying scientific knowledge to interpret and present results of field and desktop studies as required.
• Maintain current and accurate records of work performed on site.
• Keep the Project Manager informed of progress and documentation of field activities of the Contractor.
• Completion of daily progress reports, daily coordination calls, and monitor the contractor's construction activities in his/her area.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

• Self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Associate Degree or bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, history or environmental management with a background focusing in cultural resources other similar programs.
• Two or more years of experience in archeological field work, quality assurance/construction inspection work
• Knowledge of construction-related processes and industry practices
• HAZWOPER is required. Sundance will provide 40-hour HAZOPER or 8 hour HAZOPER training.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to work well under time constraints to meet deliverable targets and deadlines.

• Ability to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel when needed to isolated field sites.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the position such as walking, standing, lifting up to 40 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, squatting, and crawling.
• While prioritizing health and safety, this position requires an individual who is able to walk and hike through varying degrees of difficult terrain. Individuals may also be required to perform their job responsibilities in inclement weather conditions.
• Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment is required.

Working Conditions

• Work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity.

Physical Requirements

Walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Must be alert to construction equipment in the field.
