What You Will Do As a Food Scientist at Chomps, you will play a key role in researching, developing, and improving our meat snack products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create unique formulations, optimize existing recipes, and ensure the highest standards of quality and taste. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food science, a passion for creating exceptional products, and a commitment to Chomps' values of transparency, sustainability, and health.
Responsibilities - Developing new meat snack products from concept to commercialization, considering taste, texture, nutritional profile, and cost.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, formulations, and test results.
- Collaborate with the production team to scale up new formulations for mass production.
- Stay abreast of current trends in the food industry.
- Support continuous improvement projects to enhance product quality, production efficiency, and sustainability.
- Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in processes, product formulation, and packaging.
- Use data-driven approaches to inform decision-making and strategy.
- Work cross-functionally with teams like operations, marketing, and supply chain to implement improvements.
- Stay informed about food safety regulations and ensure all products meet or exceed industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare documentation and reports for regulatory submissions and audits.
Who You Are - Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Meat Science, or a related field.
- 3-4 years of experience in product development within the food industry, preferably in meat snacks or related categories.
- Strong knowledge of food chemistry, sensory evaluation, and formulation principles.
- Experience working in a plant environment, with a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a capacity to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel to various plant locations to support R&D trials, process changes, and start-ups.
- Creative and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and quality assurance protocols.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative in identifying and pursuing product opportunities while maintaining alignment with team and company goals.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20-30% of the time
